I got the bottom cushions out. now I want to remove the top portion of the seats. what tools do I need to unscrew the rear seat cushion studs? obviously I don't have enough tools and I have to run to sears to buy some. hex wrenches? torx or a philips? also the seat belt restraint screw? I am a moron and I always do everything the hard way the first time so please be patient with my idioticy.

A star wrench will get the bottom part of the seatbelts and the back portion of your seats. It only takes about 3 minutes to do "considering you have the right tools".
Im sorry that I dont know the exact size offhand. Maybe someoene else can chime in.

you will need a torx for the bottom bolt on the seat belts. The rear seats come out nice and easy. Haven't done it in awhile so I can't remember the torx size I am thinking 30 or 35 but not sure. Good Luck..Michael

watch out for those torx bolts on that attach the belt to the seat. they are extremly easy to strip.... I stripped one on each side, so i ended up cutting my belts I just hope i dont end up wanting/having to sell the car soon!
Does anyone have any ideas of what to do, to clean up those 2 bare metal area's where the bottom cushions used to be? Seems to me like 2 nitrous bottles could mount to those spots nicely

best way is to get a torx bit that will fit in a ratchet and rock and roll..I'm going to be fabricating a shelf that will go across the back and have a curtain to cover the bare metal...I"ll post pics when its done.

I feel your pain..been there done that. It was a huge PITA to get them out. I only had the socket torx for the seatbelt bolts which came out easy, but man those little ones were a PITA. Good luck, Michael

When I removed them, I went and bought a torx socket that would fit my 1/2" wrench. I then put a peace of copper pipe that would just fit over the handle (braker bar).
Then after I had worked one out, I remembered I had an air impact wrench :sillyme: and ZOOOMMMMM....the seats were out....I felt REALLY stupid when I thought off that.

I went to a Murray's auto parts store and asked one of the guys behind the counter if they had them. they were out of them but ordered one for me and I will pick it up later today thursday. I will also be looking to get a socket for those stupid seat belt bolts so I can finish it this weekend. work and school are killing me.

I just took the back seats out of my 2002 Z28. It was a piece of cake. This is the step-by-step for those who are too chicken to try it first by yourself:
1. Use a 1/2 socket to remove the 2 screws holding down the lower back seats (bottom center of the seats).
2. Remove both lower seats
3. Use a T50 Torx Bit to remove the 2 bolts holding the lower part of the seat belt mechanism.
3. Use a 1/2 socket to remove the lower part of the upper back seat (where it tilts)
4. Use a 11/16 drive (with a 3 inch extension is handy) to remove the unit that holds the upper part of the seat belts (by the rear speakers).
5. Remove upper seat
It took less time of me to take the seats out than it did to go to Sears and wait in line to buy the T50 Torx bit.
My car is a 2002, so it is pretty new, and everything came out easy.
I left the carpet in, and IMHO it does not look "ghetto". I took it out because 1) I generally never have people back there 2) I want to keep it away from the elements and exposure, less stuff to clean 3) I can fit more cargo back there, plus I dont have to worry about damaging or scuffing the seats. 4) Weight reduction

There is a rear seat delete kit somewhere on here. Do a search and check it out. I think it was a template on how to make it. It would probably be very useful. I believe the price was like 35 bucks. I would rather have something to go buy than to waste time trying to use the trial and error method of making one.
