3M has a rubbing compound that i used; it is supposed to get out 1500 grit sand paper scratches and swirls, ect. I used it last weekend, i cut the **** out of my paint, BLACK paint. It came out AWESOME. I used a random ordbital and it worked great. The only thing i need to warn you about is that it leaves A LOT of white dust that is annyoning to clean up afterwards. you can find this **** in the same isle as paint and bondo @ Pep Boys.

Powder based polishes and compounds like 3M and Menzerna create a fair amount of dust as they break down on the surface during buffing.

We get a lot of inquiries from f-body and other owners looking for recommendations to improve their paint surface conditions. We have a lot of success using Menzerna Super Intensive Polish to remove these circular and random scratches on harder clear coats. It is a very fine textured polish that cuts like a heavy compound. Using the FLEX machine, results can be pretty fast with dramatic improvement. The PC will also achieve these type of results just taking a little longer.

To inspect the results, swab the surface with 50/50 mix of IPA and water.
This removes any fillers, oils and residue so you can see any remaining defects.

By hand, Megs Ultimate compound or Swirl X- Ultimate compound works great by PC as well.

I scratched my front bumper on my Black SS a month ago when I pulled out the headlight. Got some Meguiars Scratch-X for the hell of it. Worked GREAT. Couldn't tell I did anything to it. For like $12 a bottle, it was well worth it!
