I've heard the wiring is different, more bulbs, or something makes them tough to install on the electrical end. True or not?

Those tails were used for Japanese export Camaro's before the tri-color tails were available across the board in '97, after that a special taillight was no longer needed to comply with Japanese laws.

On '97-'02 cars it's easy, all you need to do is trim the socket a bit or trim the opening for the socket on the taillights. No wiring mods at all are needed and it uses all the same bulbs with exception of the little 194 bulbs which wont be used anymore and can just be taped up out of the way.

With the '93-'96 cars the wiring is way different, people have done the swap though.

eBay is your best bet with finding a pair of them, unless you know someone in Japan

Here's mine installed, I modded the tails instead of the sockets. I picked these up while I was living in Japan.

Those things are a bit pricey, but kind of cool for being different.
