Thought I'd chime in here and hopefully save you some trouble down the road.....like I found out. I had shaved my console by filling in the cupholder and ashtray area back in 2007 and about 6 months later I started seeing the line of the cupholder and ashtray as the Bondo was sinking. I found out that recently what caused this is that the Bondo doesnt heat up or cool down like the plastic of the console. I've done alot of research trying to figure out what is the correct way to do it as I bought a stock on to work on. I contacted Evercoat and the local Sherwin Williams store that sells only the automotive supplies. I've since found out the console is made of Thermoplastic and you need to use a specific filler for it so it will heat up/cool down the same as the console. There's three different things I have to use to redo mine which they had to order and will be in today.

Its their Maxim adhesion promoter, Maxim adhesion and then finally for the filler the Poly-flex filler.

i remember seeing that thread. You used foam in the cupholder first right? because foam expands and cools a lot in the heat. Thanks for the heads up

No...re-read my reply You're thinking of Vikingramair that used the foam. I'm not sure how you'd use the foam in the area where you put that switch if you're going to paint it. That's why I was telling you about the Evercoat products

Has anyone tried to use an nicer auto shift **** off ebay? i figure if I can find a nice one it'll be like 1/5 the cost of buying the MBA adapter, **** and all. Something like this maybe
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Camar...lenotsupported
or this

Dude, very nice work. I am in the middle of an overhaul on pretty much everything myself. One of the items on the agenda is a carputer. Wanted to do this for years. Working on the engine bay and fabing up a hood at the moment. Can't wait to see how your install turns out

Default Update!

Here's an update, I got a bit more stuff done, a lot of it is sort of in progress

Glovebox

Dash Pad. Man I never realized this thing was so big, and it takes a LOT of glue

A Pillar

I'm covering the gauge surround in one piece of vinyl. Its going well but has to be glued small parts at a time so that it stretches properly

Inside of cluster done

Outside/back done. The trickier part to come

Some Painted pieces to match the vinyl

LCD Screen 9.2 inches!

and my Redline boots arrived! They look great and are high quality, but they were kinda expensive.

I think its coming out well so far

Thumbs up More Progress....

Here's some more progress guys, I'm almost done

I couldn't really stretch the vinyl far enough so I made into separate pieces as best I could. Gauge cluster is done!

Now the DASH - the hard part. I put some fiberglass bondo on it first to create a base. Then I put a few small screws into it towards the plastic so it would hold strong to the dash.

Then I put some regular bondo and went all over it with the dremel. I put on one more layer and finished it with some hand sanding.

Test fit, I know the edges look rough but this isnt the final pic

Glad to see my how-to benefitting others!

You are going with my "second choice" color scheme. I did Graphite/Torch red...but i've always loved the graphite/white stitching idea. I will probably do this when I get my C6Z over the winter.

Good luck to you, I know first hand how much patience this takes. Also, if you need any advice or tips and tricks, just PM me and i'll give what I can.

More updates. This is getting close to finished!

Got the center console and cluster in. A word of advice: pay extremely close attention to the edges when you wrap pieces or they will stick out like a sore thumb, or maybe I just notice it more.
I also shortened the shifter by 3/4 of an inch using this how to: https://ls1tech.com/forums/4692757-post1.html
and I put a MBA adapter and MBA **** with a firebird engraved in it

Its actually ABS plastic. Its stamped on the bottom of it. All you have to do is make some ABS sludge. ABS shavings and acetone. let the abs melt in the acetone for a few days. Put it in an approved squirt bottle and quirt it out. bonds right to the plastic. Ive molded my navi in my old auto console with it. sands smooth 2
