Default Had to pull my HID fogs...

After about 6 months I had to pull my HID fogs. They were starting to melt the stock fog light. This was an Ebay kit.

Mine do it too, very slightly so I stopped running them most of the time. I'm wondering if they'll just melt to a certain point? I'd like to find a glass company and get lenses made.

I noticed the same thing with my HID fog light kit. I've got a low beam HID kit that came with the h4703 housings for the hid bulbs, and I ordered an ebay kit for my fog lights. I just had to chance them out after about 3 months because one burned out. I pulled both of them and the hid bulb on the one that was working was filled with a clear liquid(looked like water), but it was still working???. But since the HID 880 bulbs are so long they practically touch the fog light lens.

I plan on taking the original lenses off and replacing them with glass ones too.

I thought these HID kits were supposed to run at a lower temperature than normal bulbs. Is that right or wrong?

I'd be careful changing to glass 'cause if something hits them they'll break.

Yeah it's practically inevitable. Only way to avoid is to run your fogs less. The HID kit isn't at fault for this.

TA, I think the issue is that the metal tip is almost touching the plastic lense.

I MIGHT be able to fit H3 HIDs in my Pilot NV-362W housings. They're metal and glass and use H3 bulbs. Again, I'm not sure that they're deep enough for H3 HID bulbs, but I will take another look at them.

You can find them at Autozone for about $60, or less if you buy them from a swap meet. I found a few of them at the last local car swap meet going for real cheap, so if all you need are the housings for HIDs I should grab a few for ya.

I've had the housings installed for more than a year of daily driving and two 3,000 mile road trips (one in February through snow/ice/gravel conditions) and they are holding up fine with no cracks or leaks that let water in.

They are the ones on the right:

With the halos hooked up:

Zex, if they are using H3's, are the beam pattern's different/better than the stock fog housings? How much do they go for at these meets you're talking about?

The beam pattern can best be described as a bright cone of light (about 75% intensity, 60% area), with a soft diffused cone of light around it (about 25% intensity, 40% area). Unfortunately it causes glare, but if you're using non-projector HID's in a low level location such as the fog light area then it's pretty much unavoidable. At the swap meet I found some for $10-$20. Open box item but the housings and mounts were intact. I'm still not sure if they're deep enough for the H3 HID bulbs.

Right now it looks like they aren't deep enough but I can't tell until I find an HID bulb to test fit in there. Other brand housings might fit, though.
