Default How to mount gauge in vent

I have seen it EVERYWHERE and I only need to mount one gauge and don't want a pillar so I thought I would throw it in the AC vent all the way to the left, but I don't want to tear into it without exactly knowing how. I google'd like mad, but nothing. Any tips?! How the heck is this done?

they way i did mine when i had one in was i bought this grommet type thing from lowes. it was hard plastic and its hard plastic grommet that goes in a computer desk to run wires through. the 2 1/16 gauge fit perfectly in it and it practically held itself inplace in the vent. its really hard to describe the plastic grommet thing.

something kinda like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...91&refid=store

the top pops off its just a little cap then you have a perfect hole and edge for the gauge. im not sure what size gauge your running but i think with a 2 5/8 gauge theres not much work to get it to fit.

Assuming you have a Firebird, then yes, 2 5/8 will fit well. They are marginally too small, so you'll have to wrap them with something so they don't fall out.

Also, chances are good that you'll destroy your vent when you take it out. It happens.

Ah, that's no good. I'm just putting it all the way on the left in the vent that is part of the plastic trim thing. I am going to try not to destroy it though. If I do, I can just score another at a salvage yard.

I'm hijacking a little bit...but I need to put A/F, Fuel Pressure, and N20 Pressure gauges in my car. But, I don't want a pillar mount, and I live in Texas...so working A/C is a must. Do I have any other options?

You can put a mounting bracket below and to the right or left of the steering wheel. Like these http://www.egauges.com/vdo_agrp.asp?...nting_Brackets I wouldn't do that though. If you get a double DIN adapter and a single DIN radio, you could possibly do a DIN mount. Like these http://www.egauges.com/vdo_indA.asp?PN=PAN-001 Or just eliminate your radio all together but, again, not something I would do. Hope that helps.

EDIT: Just found the "Wedgee" http://www.egauges.com/vdo_acce.asp?Subgroup=Wedgee
Poke around, see what you find, and post the results!

i put my wideband in the tweeter speaker in the door. It fits perfectly with only the slightest amount of trimming. it angles right at the driver. only prob. is that its sorta low to have to look at.

One of the users on this site recommended Pro Flex part number 3001-22. I picked them up at Home Depot yesterday and works great in mounting a 2 1/16 gauge in a TA vent.

No kidding man! That really is insanely smart. Like if I didn't have to give up my tweeter I would do that no questions asked. Haha I'm more particular about my music than my transmission! But other than being low like you said, that is beyond awesome!!! Props!!!!

I just used a bead of black silicone to mount my guages.

Psh. Whatever, that's stock.

Spped Inc makes this little billet adapter thing for 2 1/16 gauges. If it was black, it looks like it would be pretty neat, but that brushed billet looks weird to me.
