Default Dynamat

I have to pull my carpet and wanted to lay down some Dynamat on the floor but the **** is expensive it would cost me over $300 just for the stuff. Is it really worth it?

Default Just finished mine

I got a 100' ft role of FatMat off of ebay for pretty cheap.. like less than $150... It just like Dynamat and the car is so much quieter.. 100Ft was enough to do the front of the back seats all the way to the back of the car and both doors with some left over...

Just plan on leaving your windows open... it stinks...

Fat mat is not the same stuff.. It all depends on what you buy. The reason this guys smells, is because it is a cheaper, asphalt based compound that will always smell like black top. If you do some research, you will find out that there is another kind. It is a little more pricey, but no smell and superior quality as well as durability. It is a butyl based, non-asphalt, rubber type. I used raamat from ramaudio and it went down like butter and I didn't get cut once because of their coating on their foil. Like most of the time, you get what you pay for. Do it right and do it once.

Oh, and I couldn't resist.

It's worth it. I used some cheap ****, worked just as good as Dynamat, I forgot the name. I still have 80 ft in my closet, for whatever car I get next.

I do agree it does stink, but no worse than the Dynamat I did years ago. Not defending FatMat at all, it is definitly cheaper quality than the real thing but I could not justify almost 3 times the price. It went down really easy and the foil was not a problem. The smell has pretty much gone now and the car is a lot quiter than it used to be.

If you can pay the price for the real thing I would definitly say go for it.. like I said just was not worth the price for me...

Dynamat and Second Skin make the good stuff. RAAMat is the only "economy" deadener I would buy. I did a ton a research on sound deading and decided on Damplifier from Second Skin. I found it to be the best value.

The other brands mentioned in this thread are cheaper because you are either getting less product or they're using cheaper materials (asphalt).

I did my entire car, floor, doors, trunk, EVERYTHING... You can cruise at 90mph on the highway and its quieter than a Cadillac. Keeps out the noise and its great. Also when I crank my system too it keeps the noise in and there is none of that annoying *** rattle from anything. I would suggest it. Makes quite a difference.

Yes.

Be sure to do the doors, roof, trunk, floor, firewall, pillars, deck, etc... And be sure to spend all night, everynight, for about a week doing it.

I used edead and although it did work it melted over time in certain areas like my spare tire well. It's a pit of black goo back there now. Edead is complete crap.

Peel n Seal is a good alternative. You could probably do the whole car for less than $100.

i used rattletrap XXX. Smelled like crap for a week or so now no one knows. Nice to be able to hold a conversation in the car again. believe i used 100sqft of the stuff. Did whole car, rear wells doors and all. Went on pretty easy, just watch your hands, this stuff leaves cuts (think papercuts with thick metal foil) that will have you bitchin for days.

Definitely worth doing. I did just the doors, lightly, when I replaced the speakers and it made a noticeable difference
