With the type of plastic these ***** use, epoxy would bond very well. Im with VIP, hot glue would not be good in the long run.

Question

I ordered a set from one of the links posted and they do NOT fit.

The d-shape was way too big and too short.

Which set actually fits?

I got the *****, and yes, there needs to be some modding to get them to fit. I haven't had much time to do anything with them, but I will post some pictures when I do.

We all said that they wouldn't fit without modification.
You need to modify them.

Nope.

Actually someone in this thread posted that some of the ***** fit right on BUT that the D-shape would be 180* pointed in the wrong direction.

I couldn't care less about modifying the D-shape 180* for the ***** to point in the proper direction but these ***** I received have too large an opening.

Definitely all ears to how they can be modified otherwise I'll just junk them. Only 12 bucks anyway.

Lesson learned

You probably bought the ones that I posted which I said were 180* the wrong direction AND too large.

I got some in and they were the ones that were too large. I had a second HVAC panel and set of ***** that I had no qualms modifying and just cut the part that goes into the HVAC unit level with the back of the **** itself on both. I then made sure they were perfectly flat and used PlasticWeld to attach the back of the stock ***** to the Mazda ones.

I removed one of the switches from the back of the spare panel and used the hole as sort of a jig. I wrapped some paper around where the plastic weld was so the **** wouldn't get stuck in the panel and placed it in there to make sure they fit and lined up correctly and let it dry overnight in that position.

The next morning I pushed it out through the back of the panel and removed the paper. The plastic weld as cured and I tested it on the switch I removed to make sure it wouldn't shear off or fall apart. All was well and I installed them on my actual car. Been working great for a couple weeks now.

I'll post pictures of the finished product when I have a chance. Wishing I'd taken pics in-progress.

Can you post info & pics of how you modded them? I have 2 boxes (3 ***** each) sitting on my desk for the last few months. (car is in storage) I was going to try and either get or make a metal insert the right shape/orientation and fill in the gaps.

I didn't take pictures, but I can explain what I did.

So the first thing is you need to cut off the plastic rim around the outside of the **** to get it to fit flush.

Then I used some gorilla glue and filled the back of the **** where it slides over the metal tab on the hvac panel, and put a screw in to take up some of the void.

After the glue setup for a few hours, I was able to remove the screw, and then insert the metal 'D' shape tang from the factory **** and let the glue harden completely.

I'll try to grab some pics as I do the 2nd and 3rd ones.

The Alchemist, sounds like what I was thinking although I wasn't sure about removing the extra clear lip at the back.

[EDIT]
I don't know what I was thinking, but the ones I have don't have the clear lip at the back. The box says they are for a Mazda 6 (M6). The ones I have might be bigger.
