Spray Painting Front License Plate Cover

I don't really want to buy the stickers to put on the firebird logo on my license plate cover. So I'm thinking about spray painting it. What I'll do is probably take off the plate, cover it in tape, then carefully cut out the bird, and paint it with that body spray paint they sell at Oreilly's.
Has anyone ever done this?
Here's a pic of my car:

I agree. That's what i did. You can get all kinds from regular colors to flames to the american flag and chrome. Got mine black and now i'm probably changing to chrome. Much easier to deal with and they are pretty cheap. That's just my 2 cents. By the way, you have a damn good looking car man.
