HID wiring
HID wiring Can a D2S HID kit be wired into the stock headlight harness? All the projectors I can find for the headlight retrofit I'm going to do use D2S bulbs. I can get a D2S HID kit, but I was wondering if it can be wired into the stock harness without much complication. If there is an adapter for a 9006 HID bulb to fit into the D2S projector housing that's an option too, but I haven't been able to find one. Appreciate any help.

There are a couple things to answer here...
1.) WIRING: Depends on the HID setup you get. OEM or kit. Either way, I'd recommend an upgraded harness. Its not absolutely necessary, but a good idea.
2.) BULBS: You can't make a 9006 kit bulb fit in place of a D2S. However, you can buy D2S bulbs and AMP to D2S adapters to use the D2S bulbs with your aftermarket kit ballasts.
Since it sounds like you already have a 9006 HID kit on your Camaro, just get D2S bulbs and AMP to D2S adapters. That should solve both your problems (wiring and bulbs).

clarification Thanks for the info, let me fill in some blanks. I don't have a HID setup yet. I'm looking into buying a hid kit. I guess my question now is will a D2S hid kit just plug right up or will the plugs not match? My headlight wiring is completely stock right now. I'd rather buy the TSX projectors and D2S kit and put them in my headlights now than have to change out the 9006 system later. You answered my other ?'s thanks.
ddm BTW I'm looking at the D2S 35w 5000k or 9006 35w 5000k slim ballast kits from DDM Tuning. If the D2S will hook up to my stock harness, or could be made to with minimal headache, I'll go with that so I can hook them into the projectors that i'll install in the stock headlight housings. If it can't then i'll just get the 9006 and hope there isn't too much glare from the stock housings. Thanks for the help guys.
Im sure you could it the way Im doing my T/A. Im using factory Nissan HID's and I bought a harness that will adapt the D2S plugs to my current H4 setup. The RetroFitSource makes a harness to plug into a 9006 connector.

I don't know what electrical input connectors will be on the D2S kit (depends on the kit), but if they aren't a 9005/9006 style, you could simply replace the kit's electrical input connectors with male 9005/9006 connectors to connect to the stock harness. Or you can buy/build an upgraded relay harness. I built my own upgraded relay harness because I'm running 55watt HID.
That may sound technical, but its not. HID ballasts have input and output. The output will be AMP for aftermarket kit bulbs, D1S/D2S/etc for OEM bulbs. The input connector will be different for different kits and cars. OEM setups will probably use a proprietary connector or that connector will already be cut off before it gets to you in which case you'd attach your own connector. Aftermarket kits can also come with a variety of connectors depending on what you specify when you buy them. If they don't provide you with a choice, then the kit will either not have connectors and you just attach your own, or they'll have 9005/9006 connectors which is what you want. Often the input-side of a kit ballast is 9005/9006.

The red connector is D2S. OEM D2S ballasts will have that red connector, although it may not necessarily be red. Aftermarket ballasts may have that connector or come bundled with these adapters.

Verdad Gallardo HID Kit installed Hey guys. Got the HID kit from ddm tuning installed. I went with the 9006. It was straight plug and play. Had to flip the plug from the factory harness, just like a few of the other people on here. Even without the projector the beam is pretty focused...and at least 5x brighter than the halogen bulbs. Couldn't be happier.
