Default DETAIL: '07 Jet Black Ferrari F430

I met the owner of this F430 at the September Cars and Coffee GTG in Plano. Initially he came up to ask me some questions about how he could safely wipe the his car using detail spray without inflicting new scratches. It was a sunny morning and before we got to the car, I could already see the rotary induced holograms over a great portion of the car. Last detailed by the dealer, he admitted. After several weeks, we finally were able to coordinate schedules. On Saturday morning, he delivered the car to me at my work location for the day, I noted on top of the holograms were many parallel and random stray scratches from wiping down the surface many times.

The surface was just lightly dusty on arrival. After blowing off with the compressor, I did a light ONR wipedown. After taping up any trim, badges, and other fragile surfaces, I started testing combinations of Menzerna SIP, Megs M105 using both yellow and orange LC CCS pads in 4 and 5.5" inch sizes. The majority of section seem to respond very well to the 5.5" orange pad/M105 combo. On the narrow body panels, trim pieces and heavily marred lower aero intakes, the M105/yellow 4" CCS pad proved to be quite handy.

Engine bay under glass:

After polishing this car all day with Megs M105 followed by Meg M205/gray 6.5" LC CCS pad to refine the surface further, I completed the process by hand using a red 4" round CCS foam pad polish applicator with our Crystal Black Carnauba Creme.

Tire dressing with water based "White Pearl" Tire/Trim Dressing:

Questions/comments welcomed.

Looks nice...

I'm having to use techniques on my Camaro you wouldn't believe... I've never found clear this hard...

LC 4" Yellow @ 6 on the PC w/Ultimate Compound...Won't even remove light swirls... It's taking the same combo @2000 RPM with the Rotary with pretty heavy pressure to start removing light swirls... Getting 3000 grit sanding marks are extremely hard to remove...

This problem is only on the parts that were painted about 5 years ago though... The recent paint is much easier to correct...

Any Ideas? Anything more aggressive I can get OTC?

Menzerna SIP - super intensive polish is available, along with their ceramic polish is a pretty good combo...the porter cable really doesn't do too much if there is deep scratches...only the rotary will take them out. I have yet to try out the 105 from meguirs, i am sure he can chime in if it works better than sip.

BTW, The ferrari looks great!

I like the Ferrari, very clean and such a classy design. One drove through my neighborhood this weekend and sounded great.

Nice job on restoring the paint to the right condition. I didn't see any orange peel, I wonder if they do a wet sand from the factory.

I had both M products at my discretion. The yellow pad/M105 worked faster for my needs. You'd be surprised at the amount of blemishes you could remove by hand with the M105. I use all I can and sell the rest.
Meguiars M105 $26.69

Steve, man, you are doing great! I have been using the 105 for a while now with their yellow pad on a DA. Do you get better results with a rotary?

You would get faster results with the rotary use and M105. Use this product with a number of different foam pads and you'll get various degrees of correction. It's great for hand use on small buff areas.

I really need to get some M105, I have seen nothing but good results from it and I am very curious what it will do compared to SIP.

I'll see him on Saturday morning at our next Cars and Coffee GTG here in Texas. Last month we had over 500 cars show up.

You never know. Anything is possible.

You won't be disappointed. It cuts faster than SIP. Both dust about the same and the SIP has a longer working time before completely breaking down.
