cleaning engin?

cleaning engin? I want to clean the engin and engin compartment on my 2002 Z28.Can I just spray the engin down with a water hose or will that damage some of the electrical components? I know its a dumb question but I want my motor to stay clean. Thanks for any help.Also just got my Zaino in, can`t wait to put it on.
Re: cleaning engin? I would like to know also. I posted the same question a couple of weeks ago and I was told to use a garden hose with some simple green, but under no cicumstances use a pressure washer.

Re: cleaning engin? just run up to the 'quarter carwash', spend a buck, open the hood and hose it down. if you are afraid of ruining your electronics by getting them wet, don't drive when it's raining. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Re: cleaning engin? go to an autoparts store and pick up a "CD2 Engine Detailer Kit" takes about 15-20 minutes to do and looks BAD ***! comes with a cleaner spray, then hose that off and spray on the polish spray. i did it to my 2000 and a guy saw my engine bay a week later and asked if it was a 2002 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Re: cleaning engin? I also go to the quarter car wash. I use a light water spray and stand back about 5 feet on low power. This way its basically misted. Then I run the absorber over it all. Come home and clean the absorber. Looks really good. Does anyone know how to get the sides of the engine bay that is painted, glossy like the rest fo the car? My car is black and under the hood, it isn't glossy, more of a spray painted look. Should I use a light rubbing compound? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

Re: cleaning engin? Mix a 75/25 solution of Simple Green and water in a spray bottle. On a cold motor, spray it down using common sense around the electrical connections. Wait a half hour and spray it again. Rinse with a garden hose or low pressure at the quarter car wash.
