Default I want to home Polish my CME tips! Help!!!

Has anyone done this before?? I have seen one guy do it w/ 220, 320, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1500 grit sand paper. Then polished them out w/ Mothers polish. They look Dam* good. I have just never heard anyone else do it, so I was wondering if anyone has and can post tips, hints, experiences...etc!
I appreciate it!

I did mine. I can tell you a few things not
to try.

Dremel sandpaper disks - last about 1 minute
apiece. If you want to use these, buy plenty
ahead of time.

Dremel wire brushes - last about 2 minutes.
Little bits of wire all over the place.

I think I would try the mini flap-wheel sanders
if I were doing it again. More sand and better
looking quality. At least, the ones I saw at Ace
last week (1" diameter) looked pretty good.

I think if you can find a 1/4" shank grinding
stone, like a round-end cylindrical, that's
meant for aluminum, that would be ideal. If
you want to polish the throats like I did.
Regular stones just load up too fast.

The way it went, I just chewed up all of the
Dremel sanding drums I had, and the ones I
bought after that; maybe 20 in all. From there
on out I used sandpaper, sweat and cartilage.
60, 120, 180 dry, then 320 and 600 wet, then
some buffing wheels with white compound, and
finally Mother's.

The bitch is, when you're all done, you really
notice how fast they get soot/water stained.

On the plus side, my CME used to ring like a
bell before I polished it, and getting the
rough off there seems to have settled it down
some. Still has more of a pure-note exhaust
sound than a mean-motor sound though.

I saw some guy on here took his off and got
them chromed. That looked pretty nice. He had
to cut the center web and it looks like a
griefer to get the bells out of the pipe ends,
since they used the U-bolt clamps and put some
crush to mine.

I would think about trying an electroless nickel
plate, maybe. Something has to be better in terms
of maintenance than steam-exposed polished aluminum.

Looks damn pretty, though, right from when I
polish it to the first time I drive it.
