Default Any tips on filling in front grill mount holes on Camaro?

I am hoping to find a more cost effective way to fill in the holes left from pulling the fron grill than the 200 dollar wings west piece. I'm not saying that this thing is over priced, but I am saying I would love to do this inexpensively.

I have a white car so I have to fill the holes.
Anyone have any suggestions?

You could always take it to a body shop for an estimate to see how much they could fill them in for.

go to a sign company and see if they have any white vinyl sticker stuff laying around. then just put the stickers over the holes.

It might be more cost effective to just buy the WW piece.. The body shop would probably have to repaint the whole bumper cover, to do a quality job..

To do it the proper way, you would indeed have to pull the bumper and have it repainted. You can go to any parts store and pick up a can of body filler, and just use that to fill in the holes. Then sand the filler down smooth with the rest of the bumper, and then have it repainted and cleared.

That would be the prettiest way to do it. But it definately would not be cheaper than a WW grill. You're probably looking at roughly 300-400 for a good paint squirt for the bumper.

Post pics of the white vinyl when you get it.. I can't picture how that would look better than just having the holes exposed.

Damian, I spoke with a body man who told me of a plastic filler and the steps needed to "do it right". You are right about the labor necessary to do the work though. Then another problem is that you couldnt put the grill back on if you ever needed too (that is if you ever needed too).

I'm hoping the vinyl will be acceptable simply because I'm going to use it as sparingly as possible. I plan on only trying to cover the exposed holes, not smooth over the entire recessed area.

I can't say I've never heard this subject come up before. I think most miss the obvious so let me show you the options:

Buy new Wings West Insert - Unpainted = $$
Have new Wings West Insert Painted by your Bodyshop Guy = $$

IMHO, when you add those 2 above your going to spend about what it would cost to have your holes filled and painted anyway. I personally prefer the look of the holes filled/painted. Much cleaner IMHO. All that money and effort to get the WingsWest Insert and have a Snap-On look..

By the way.. The entire front end does not need to be painted.. Just the area where the stock grill was.

Here's a couple pics of mine w/Holes filled and painted.

Pic 1

Pic 2

Not trying to offend anyone elses opinion, etc. Just wanted to help..

That looks really amazing, but to get it like that would take A LOT of know-how and experience... It's also easier on some colors than others.

All these guys with their holes filled and painted!.. Looks so Factory clean IMHO.

I've got the screens in mine too.. MIght not be able to see them with the lighting.. I bought some Gutter Guard from HomeDepot. (Couple Bucks) I removed the front facia of my car to which you'll see the styrofoam front supports. There's a spot that's recessed that'll you identify immediately as the area that the nostrils show thru. I put a section of the Gutter guard over this area and used some long staples I had in the shop. Just tapped them lightly into the styrofoam.. Others prefer glue. The staples worked for me and hold the Gutter guard in place.. THen I put the front facia back on and Wallah!

I love those red ones.. They look really clean. Did either of you have to repaint the whole bumper, or just that section? Thanks.

I'm thinking about doing this and I can't find that much info in regards to it. So yeah, I'm reviving this old thread. From what I can tell, the only options you have(unless you're competent in body work/paint) is to either cover them up with vinyl or pay the body shop. For anyone who has done this...how much? if you don't mind. If you've ever even checked into this, how much were you quoted. I really would like to get mine done...and it probably wouldn't hurt to have the whole front fascia resprayed either. Any info. you have about this subject is greatly appreciated.

When I took my car into the shop to have my front end fixed I asked about filling in the holes, since I was taking off the front grille. I was told it would be cheaper to get the grille and have it painted. And that there were chances of that there could be indentions later down the road if you have them filled, since the bumper is a totally different composite.

Heres a picture of that front grille I was advised to get, anything looks better than the stock grille

which grill is that, wings west? Looks great does it use the original grill mounting points or is it drilled in?
