It's neither. My friend has a shop and when he painted my hood he had some paint left over so I had him spray the intake.

Hey man, paint it yourself! It's ridiculously easy as long as you know what you're doing.
I painted my LS6 Intake Duplicolor Cast-Iron (gunmetal'ish)

I didn't sand an inch.
Wipe off intake with isopropyl alcohol
3 Coats of Duplicolor adhesion promoter
3 Coats of Duplicolor base (color) coat
3 Coats of Duplicolor Engine Enamel 500 Degree clear coat
If you can find a base color you want in Duplicolor Engine Enamel (500 degree) it'd be the safer route.. But the intake is a dry intake, so any paint should hold up. If you want pewter-metallic, I could guarantee that Duplicolor has one at your local parts store. If anything, unscrew your gas cap or something and see which one matches the paint can the most.
Hope this helps a bit, PM me if you need anything

just plain old krylon semi flat spray paint...first coat held up fine for over a year, I found it was easier to repaint it on the car than give it a thorough cleaning so I just held up a cardboard to block overspray and went over it again
letters were done with a simple paint pen
looks a million times better than the stock primer gray look...yuck

98 WS6:
They didnt have anything called "adhesion promoter" but they had a sandable primer. will that do the trick or should i get a regular primer. Id rather not sand if i dont need to.
