Default Dying Door Panels?

My camaro has the ugly "rainbow" grey cloth interior. I have made a rear seat delete and will be replacing the front seats, but I need to do something about the door panels. At this point I want to try to dye them before recovering or replacing them with leather.

I have never been pleased with aerosol dye's because they usually leave the fabric hard and "crunchy" feeling.

Can you guys point me to a good dye that will still feel normal. I want to dye the panels black by the way as I am going with black seats.

Im confused what part of the door panel are you wanting to dye exactly?

The carpet? I wouldnt even try to dye that just pull it and cover with a leather/vinyl.

boooooooo. I have the same interior color scheme. I actually like it. IMO its the best one you can get aside from leather. But as Screamin 99 said, I think you'd be better off just putting leather / vinyl over it rather than trying to dye it.

You can dye it but it will probably not last too long, most all dyes are created equal

Has anyone removed it before and recovered like suggested? I believe it is not really designed to be removable from other posts I have seen.

How about firebird door panels? The center section is removable and you can wrap it in whatever you like. You can also dye the plastic part, or wrap that too.

Plus, alot of folks think bird panels look good in camaros.

I got a set for sale...
PM me if interested.

Here's the link to recover your door panels:

I decided I didn't want to try it, so I took mine to an uphostery shop. I paid $100 in labor to have them recover them, but the $100 was worth it IMO.

And DO emphasize BEAST of a staple gun getting the window channel guide re-attached . If u use screws like that article suggests as an alternative the screw heads will be visible , which is unsightly .

I wouldnt recommend trying to use fabric dye . U soak the material your dying in the dye , then rinse the excess dye out . If u do this in the car , youll never get it rinsed thouroughly and it will bleed , and ultimately might be crunchy feeling anyways after it dries with all that excess dye .
