I have found oil film after a drive on the TOP of my back bumper.
When we did my intake manifold gasket 2 years ago the the whole underside had a film of oil on it. even now i apparently have another leak from either the valve cover (which has a less than 2 year old gasket on it) or somewhere else on the back of the engine and when i had the muffler installed last fall i saw a pretty good coat starting on the underside again.

good job guys. I'm going to clean under my car soon. I work at a classic car dealership and we have an outdoor lift, steam cleaner, and some awesome degreaser so I'm going to go to town cleaning here in the next couple weeks. I'll probably scrub and then repaint the stuff that really needs it.

i have thought about cleaning up the under body of mine but it would take me a little time seeing as how the previous owner decided to put a rod through a block. The few things i have replaced on and under the car though i have worked on cleaning them up what i can.

that post a lill back of the v6 with just over 1000 miles is proof that low mileage doesnt mean perfect. cars are meant and built to be driven. i know i'm one to talk, but one of these days, i'll get my underside in good shape.
i'm really suprised in the amount of people who care about the un-seen side like i do. i'll try to take and post pics this weekend of the car that started this thread. keep it rolling..

I need to take some pics later on. I've got close to 60k miles and my undercarriage is pretty damn clean. I guess that's mainly because it's been stored on a 4-post lift for the past 3 years, so wiping down the undercarriage is done about once a week during the summer after driving it.

Here is mine.. When I first got the car I por15'd everything underneath with a brush, very easy to do... I just removed the wheels, taped up the things I didn't want to get paint on and went away.. The por15 really works great and is easy to use. Car only has 12,500 miles..
Don't mean to highjack but what kind of tires you have?
I clean under mine once a year on a lift. I clean everything I can get to and leave it at that. I need to pull the rearend out and paint it or something, cause it does have rust on it.

I didn't realize the topic starter was dealing with lots of rust til now. I thought he was just trying to prevent a minor amount.
I saw a '93 V6 Camaro come up for sale on ebay a year or so ago with 1845 miles on it, but it was stored in a shed or something on top of dirt/grass I bet. It was horrifyingly rusty.
For comparison's sake, here's my mom's '02 SS with ~16800 miles. It's getting all of its fluids changed and a few other things, so it's not exactly spotless. In fact, it's covered in water spots underneath.

keep in mind that's an aluminum drive shaft also, so it won't rust like the one on that v6 car.

I'd say if you're going to keep the car long term then it would be worth the effort and time to clean or detail the underbody. Take pics of the process. You'll have pride and peace of mind knowing you're preserving a low mile car.
It's also a good selling point on how well you cared for the car whenever you decide to sell it.
