wiremod lesson So did the wire mod a year ago and someone this week it came loose and today i was driving and car died. Started looking around and low and behold it dropped and rode the tire for a little and burnt the green wire, an orange wire and bunch others are frayed but didn't break. I had to get it towed to a place, have a feeling i'm going to get raped and they are going to make me get a entire new harness any ideas on costs or would it tech be safe to just splice and repair a few wires.
did you extend the wires when you did it originally? mine dont have enough play in them to worry about ever hitting the tire. and if they do come loose the fender liner will still be there to protect them.
Hmmmm. . . . I did mine too, and mine were really tight. They would not rub, on the tire I think even if they came out from the plastic wheel well liner.
As far as the wires that are fucked now. You can just solder and splice and you will be just fine. Like mentioned above, heat shrink them and it will be as weather resistant as they were before.

Whatever....done RIGHT its one of the best appearance mods you can do under the hood. And its free. With 100s of cars done on here alone this is the first problem I have ever heard of like this with it.

wires are not extended, car is lowered, and its been fine for 3 years. Somehow the tabs used to hold it up broke and dropped the wire on the tire. Also to not the inner fender on my car is not there, it was damaged a while back

The thing that I've been concerned about with this is water. Under the hood it won't get too much (yeah a little but still fairly dry under there). In the wheel well there is a LOT more water getting thrown around.
it's not going anywhere, nor is it going to get very wet
you can also get the plastic shrouds to wrap around all of the wiring and tape it off as well, if done right it will most certainly keep it all dry

OP, did you use velcro to help secure the wires to the top of wheel well? I remember seeing a write up for this and he used velcro. Seemed like if the tabs ever broke that it would still be secured on top of the wheel well.

yup did not have a inner fender it got cracked and was rubbing on the top of the tire and fell out. They dont take much abuse if y ou come down hard and the wheel hits the fender
