Default Thinking about redoing my Gray interior to Black. Anyone do this?

Hey fellas,

I've been thinkin' about it.. and I think I would love my interior a lot more if it were black.

Old pic..

I like the interior gray, but think it would look nicer black. Seeing as my whole exterior is red/black.

I figured I could paint all the plastics with DupliColor vinyl/fabric paint. I've used it on the door panels in the '73 Camaro and it's amazing stuff. Or I'll have to buy new plastic pieces.. Then I guess new seats..

Do ebony interiors have black carpets and black fabric headliner? If someone could post up a handful of pics of their black interior for reference, I'd appreciate it.

Anyway, anyone else ever do this?

I'm actually about to do this too. Probably going to start in a week or two. Looking forward to seeing your results!

Hopefully I have results to begin with LOL. Good luck on yours though. How are you going about doing yours? Painting the plastics or buying all new pieces?

I want to do this at some point. But I was thinking more of wrapping everything. Maybe I'm a glutton for punishment, wrapping all the panels is a lot of work.

We did this with the white 96....but didnt do all the plastic. We left the plastic grey and did the seats and door panel inserts in ebony (out of the SOM car) and painted the speaker grilles black. It gives it a look like the camel interiored cars. I really like it, better than all ebony I think because it gives it a subtle custom look.

Thanks Robbie! I actually like the way that looks.. If I get lazy with my idea then I'll do that. If I actually get the desire to rip my interior apart.. I'll paint everything.

Just the idea of everything being black makes me

The one thing I'm curious about.. can I paint the steering wheel?!

The ebony interiors have a dark gray carpet and the headliners in all the cars were the same color I believe.. I still want to replace my carpet with black..

I painted all my interior pieces a few years ago with the duplicolor interior paint. It looks great but getting the panels back in, especially the door panels, without scratching them is a challenge. My dash and console are still painted but have bought used ebony panels to replace the others. My dash and console are actually black primer and it seemed to hold up alot better than the duplicolor and the primer gave it more of a satin finish. The other panels just didn't have the look I wanted, maybe because they were gloss? But I just got tired of worrying about scratching them. I kinda wished I would've tried the fusion to see how it would've done. Not telling you to paint or not paint, just giving you a little of my experience. I wouldn't paint the steering wheel I am pretty sure the paint will come off if you are touching it all the time, but I am no paint expert. Might just try and find a junker with a black steering wheel?

Daamn! I've also been thinking about doing a two tone interior black and grey. The black door inserts and black speaker grills look great. Only route I'd take different would be just getting come custom ebony leather seats instead of buying ebony used ones.

My car came with ebony, but I did replace the carpet with an actual Black one (not ebony) when i sound deadened the car. That alone made it look alot better and got alot of compliments from people. I used the carpet off of stockinteriors.com Fit was pretty good, had to do a bit of trimming but nothing horrible. Also have a spare ebony headliner if you're looking.

BTW, 98WS6, I saw your car at Kaltech when i was there to pick up a bellhousing yesterday. Looks good man.

Yeah I'm liking the 2-tone - it isn't obvious 2-tone like a tan and black would be, but a dark gray and black is looking pretty sweet. I may do mine that way now.

LOL Did you really? Where was it, sitting inside? Thanks man

I'll keep you in mind for that headliner.. If I actually go through with everything I'll probably be interested. I wish I had my car.. I'm bored as hell.

I just kept a look out in the classifieds and found most of the interior. I still have some pieces that need to be replaced but just haven't gotten around to it.

I didn't buy any of it...it came out of my orange car when I changed the interior in it. So it was free...

I am going to be wrapping everything. I want it to FEEL nice too! I found a really nice vinyl leather that actually feels nice, smooth, and soft and looks very real.
