What's the estimate price for an exterior paint job that comes close to factory color. Preferbably (Is that a word? ) black and on a vette.

For a quality COMPLETE repaint, budget $7,000 to $9,000.
I had my SS completely repainted (and changed the color) for $8,500. The car looks like it came from the factory in Electron Blue!
Quality is the issue, and what gets painted? Door and Trunk Jambs? Is it a mask job or is all trim removed? Base Coat / Clear Coat? Metallic / Solid? . . . . .
And for the word, it is Preferably, just FYI

I would say around 1500-3000 , 3000 should be max w/out doing jams, trunk, etc... xtsa z, do you have any pics of a 8500 doller paint job?? Does it have real gold flakes in it? I know it can get expensive, but etching to see it!!

Troy Trepenier (sp?) of hot rod fame charges $40K for his paint jobs........
Having seen picters of Xsta's Berger, and having seen a few Bergers up close at Orlando earlier this year I can honestly say that the paint is worth evry penny.

And for what it is worth I had my 1967 Chevelle repainted in 1986 and it cost me $4,000!!! And that was 16 years ago!
Basically you get what you pay for. A $3,000 paint job sure ain't going to look like a $8,000 paint job.
I gave my estimate, and that is base upon actualy CASH I spent.

Re: What's the estimate price for an exterior paint job?
That price includes the whole process im sure. ie: taking off old paint, sanding, etc.
it doesnt cost 10k just to throw some paint on a car

Yup. Do you want the car to look OK at 30mph or do you want it to win trophies? That's the, well, $1,000-8,000 question.

Re: What's the estimate price for an exterior paint job?
Your best bet, to anyone is. To remove all your own trim etc. Then you can wetsand the whole car yourself. If NO body work is needed, then the average GOOD shop would still charge $1000-1500 for jams , underhood etc. Then another $2500-3500 for the outside, which will also include taping off, wetsand and buff minor imperfections.. So color change job = $3500-5000 for an excellent job and YOU doing some assembly and disassembly.
But hey you'll save $1000-2000 for a few hours..
anything much less will = crap

A complete high quality paint job with a metallic BC/CC is 7-9K. That's top quality and thorough, something worthy of a showcar. It's just like anything else, you get what you pay for.

Re: What's the estimate price for an exterior paint job?
I'd say 7-9K is about right for a quality lifetime paint job. I went to a shop in Leauge City to see about getting my front and rear bumpers repainted W/ space above the pipes painted black like the Yellow TA's and he wanted 1K alone for just those. This was an awesome shop though. in the garage there were 2 69 SS, both were just the shells, one painted orange w/white stripes and the other bright red w/white stripes. Then there was a full size dragster and a Jr. dragster right next to it. In the parking lot there was a GTS bright Yellow... I could go on for ever. A badass shop = mucho mucho $$$
I had a 94Z I had painted but 2 years ago for $750 (full body w/flames). http://community.webshots.com/photo/...33338284adoWMC I was not pleased with it, after the fact the guy told me this was his first flame job. I wanted to strangle him.

Re: What's the estimate price for an exterior paint job?
I had mine painted for $2500, but it was a close friend who did the work for me. The car was completely taken apart too. Its been 5 months and the paint still looks like its wet. Zaino doesn't hurt either.

Re: What's the estimate price for an exterior paint job?
I had my car painted at the BMW place and it was only $3800 and that was to change the color as well. Mine is showroom with 3 clearcoats and flexplate. I do not know why you would pay $8000 for a paint job. I only did not mine to compete in shows.

Like everything in life there are "levels" I had my old 67 Show car shot in Imron (acrylic urathane) in a solid color with black stripes.. cost was $7000.. for that the car was completly dissasembled, blocked out 4 times everything shot and reassembled.. there are way too many variables to guess a price for paint.. how far will the car be dissasembled? any rust? body repairs? custom stripes? will the stripes be "cleared in"? even the type of paint..
Ive seen MANY $10,000 paint jobs.. go to a car show sometime and look at the NICE cars.. ask them what thier paint cost.. Do a little research before you start calling BS on subject you know little about..
You can spend $200 at earl schieb or $20,000 at Fooses.. but for the most part you get what you pay for..
