Default National Speed: Bobby's 2008 BMW 135i Race Car - Carbon Fiber Widebody Completed...

This is one of those cars that's always put a smile on my face, since day one. Bobby purchased this car brand new off Schaeffer BMW's show room floor over two years ago, and within a week it was caged, gutted, had racing seats, coilovers and a slew of bolt-on modifications. 1,200 miles on it, and it started hitting track days.

Shortly after, Bobby started working with John at CCW on wheel fitment. In the process of fitting the widest wheel and tire combination possible, Bobby rolled his fenders one night at the shop. While I was watching, Bobby looked at the fender and said; "Hmmm... A carbon fiber widebody would be much cooler..."

If you know Bobby, you know what this means; it's happening.

Shortly there after, the car was stripped and was on Bobby's trailer heading across the nation to get done.

Almost two years later, the car is at its new stage, and looking absolutely fantastic. It now weighs around 2,000lbs+/-, has over 500hp and 500ftlbs, and is ready to get it done on track. Of course, Bobby has fabricated almost every part on this car.

I'll let the pictures simply speak for themselves. While looking at these pictures, remember that there is no longer one metal exterior panel on this car, it's all carbon fiber, the work looks incredible...

Out front with a few other incredible cars; Darren's National Speed built C5 Corvette, Eric's Lotus Elise and Aaron's C5 Z06 Corvette...

She'll be hitting the track shortly!

UPDATE: 06.13.10...

A few shots I took today while professional photographer Kyle McManus was working on his material (mind you, I'm no professional, this is the best I could do with my $200.00 camera, haha)...

Super pissed 135i...

What a waste it looks stupid. It looks like molded in Rancho fender flares. But to each is his own

It was done for function, form was secondary. But it is aesthetically radical, so I understand what you're saying.

Personally, I think it's incredible. I love it.

The fenders are pretty extreme, almost cartoonish looking but as stated, form follows function. Amazing workmanship though, any vids of it in action?

Hmm...interesting at the least. Not nearly as sexy or as cost/benefit compelling as a race prepped C5 or probably even a C6, but "to each his own."

It looks like it was done incredibly well, but I think if the flares had a little less dramatic transition back into the body work it would have looked better, but asthetics are a personal preference.

What transmission is in the car? I'm hoping it's a sequential manual gearbox.

That's amazing you were able to get it down to 2000lbs. Looks well put together!
