Because when your driving in heavy traffic your not always hitting your set rpm for the shift light. And I still like to keep my eyes on the road. For me its there because I take my TA to the road course on open track day. Seeing as I used to race NASA SU Series.

So in other words. Having that Tacky Tach, works for me.

I had to relocate the gauges out of my triple pillar pod because I kept hitting my head getting in and out of my car and it started to **** me right the hell off Im 6'3

I agree to not mount it.. you could find a light or a smaller one.. It just takes up a lot of space..and takes away from the clean look of a nice care.. if you REALLY must have one... why not do a new instrument cluster with all aftermarket gauges

I wonder how many of the people sayin the tachs are SO huge have ever actually had one installed in a vechicle they have actually drove.

I have a 5" monster tach on my dash & its doesnt obstruct my view at all. Mine is mounted on the right side of the hump on my dash kinda at a 45* angle. I love it there, my eyes never need to leave the road to watch my RPM's. All you get with a shift light is something tellin you hey, time to shift. You have no idea what RPM your actually turning.

Once you start making engine mods like heads, cam, nitrous & what not your stock tach is absolutely worthless. It will not keep up like a aftermarket tach. If you wanna monitor your RPM a aftermerkat tach is the way to go weather you get a 2 1/16 digital or a 5" monster tach. I like the bigger one cause its easy to read while driving.

Lol, lot of hate on tachs in this thread. Call it what you will, my **** made power to like 7600, I had a little L bracket made that mounted behind the face of the radio/vent cover, that way I didn't have to drill into my dash. Not to mention the stock tach in the dash is a piece of ****, mine was off like 600 rpm.

If you make power over the TACH max RPM, then tach's are cool with me!

First off, what transmission your vehicle is equipped with has nothing to do with reasoning behind a tach. A tachometer is used for a lot more than just knowing where to shift. Second off, my car wasn't an auto. It was a MRVB TH350 car.

Doesnt have to make power past the stock tach reading to be needed.

It has been proven time & time again that once you begin engine mods further than bolt-ons the stock tach is off.

For example if I just stomp on mine from a roll the stock tach is off 1100 RPM in first gear, 800 RPM in second & 500 RPM in 3rd. Thats all the reason I need for a accurate tach personally.

I have found its no use trying to explain this subject to people anymore. Because no matter how intelligent of an argument you make. They just keep repeating the same argument over and over again.

I can understand an aftermarket tach, just not a 5" tach mounted on top of the dash in a street car. A race car is a different story.

I like my monster tach Its out of my way and looks good. I dont have to look down can see it by looking straight; I can see were my rpms are at (One reason why monster tach's are mounted on the dash)

I know the stock tach is off, shift light solves that for me. It doesn't bother me you have a monster tach, that just not my preference.
