Unhappy brake dust corrosion

i never cleaned my wheels all last winter, and now they have those corrosion pock marks all around the lip of the wheel... the lip is polished and clearcoated i believe, is there anything i can do to make them look better? i know it they won't get totally removed, but can i make it look a little better? could i rub them with 1000 grit? ideas? thanks

I would attempt to use a clay bar before going to sand paper. I've used clay in the past to get a good amount of brake dust off the wheels on my daily driver.

If the Clay Bar doesn't work, pick up some Grade 0000 Steel Wool.

It shouldn't do anything to the clear coat. Grade 0000 is very fine and shouldn't scratch.

If the clay goes over the surface rust and doesn't remove it, the wool should have a little more bite and remove minor surface rust.

As for the shine back - what's not making the wheels shine? Is there something wrong with the clear coat? Some pics would be good. Some compound could help.

Good Luck!
