Hi guys.
we are currently working on a hood with a 3" cowl scoop that would be similar to our Mike Moran style hood, but would be geared for street use.
We are hoping to have some pictures available soon for you to check out and see what you guys think.
Thanks.

New 3inch cowl prototype
here are some pictures created using our photoshop it will give you guys an idea of what direction we are taking with this, dont worry this is not the final Draft before production we are at the early stages of this project and can still make changes, the back angle of the hood will probably change to follow the angle of the windshield ,the top will probably not become as flat as it appears in the pics . if you guys have any suggestions at this time we will consider them,Thanks

I think its looking alright. From my point of view I would make it a little bit lower but still keep it from the begging of the hood to the back. And then it should probably be a little bit wider. And try not to make it so boxy, doesn't go with the lines of the car. C5R camaro type hood

Round out the lower joint between the base/cowl more, lower it, and widen it. The original hood pictured is the one that everyone wants. The Harwood cowl for the lt1's has nice lines....look at that.

It's still VERY squared off. This might be a little brutal, but I don't think people want a hood that looks like it had a cardboard box glassed onto a flat hood. I know I don't.
Everybody is wanting a hood similar to what the re-released Sunoco Camaro came with.

Wow!
You are close with this one: http://www.vfnfiberglass.com/tempcamaro3.jpg
If you cannot/will not copy the "Sunoco" cowl hood, this would be a close option.
As for the 2 other hoods mentioned:
Harwood: I have seen this in person, way too wide and flat. It goes with the body lines about as well as a snorkel would.
ASCD: This is a carbon copy of every other cowl hood out there (Other than HW). It is the classic cowl design glued onto a car 3 decades beyond that design. Seen it in person too, looks better in pics.
IMO the cowl doesn't need to be wider... 1st: HW makes a wide one, why would VFN want to copy it and put 2 on the market?
2nd: The Sunoco cowl is the hands down most popular design and it is not wide.
I say go for it. I am still waiting for a hood to come to market that 'moves me' to buy one. I have even gotten to planning stage on a homemade hood out of frustration. I don't want to do that.

Everything has been done to that car by his own hands, gotta give him credit for that!
I don't care for the hood though.
Anyone who does needs to look no further than Harwood, that is what their cowl hoods look like.
IMO, the short and wide cowl of the HW hood makes the short and wide body of the Camaro look very pancake like. There are several LT1 and LS1 cars running around my town with HW hoods.
VFN:
Your photoshop hood shows a good feel for where you are going, but I personally hope the cowl is no taller than 3". There are several 4" hoods around, also the taller it is, the wider folks will want it to be in order to keep some proportion... I think a tall cowl will lead to comments like "boxy".

I don't know that his design came from them, or vice-versa...
I doubt they are related, Whistler is a unique kinda guy and does all his own stuff.
The only thing I was getting at is that the HW hood looks like his for whatever reason.

I called VFN today about a 3" cowl hood and they told me that they could custom make me one for a tad over $500 I may just bite the bullet and get a 4 inch hood from VFN and be done with it but it would be nice to see what one looks like on a car first. I think a 2 inch is just to small and does not jump out and grab you and the SS hood is almost $600 so if i went that route i would have a $1000 invested in a hood after being bought, painted and installed
