Something with more fitting lines... The classic cowl style just doesn't cut it with the 4th gen body.
I second.
You listening VFN?

I like something more modern like this 3" LT1 hood...

Re: Someone make a 3" COWl!
This is a 2". It's too short IMO.
I might like it in a 3"... I'd have to see it done.
I like cowl hoods that get to their ultimate hieght gradually like these 2 I've posted. That Moran hood bulges in the front way too quickly, but that might have something to do with it's super tall profile and the fact that it is a race only intended piece.

Re: Someone make a 3" COWl!
Raised this topic to some of the guys at last Thursday nite's SS trial fit. (PSJ, Joe & Henry)
Something I'd really like to 'attack' in the new year- the new shapes/styles need something without the harsh/sharp/square-ish lines. We could still incorperate the original center rib, if it seems a popular point. Yes? No?
Anyhow, keep ideas flowing- pics are great and point out the wanted/unwanted features. We'll work it from there. Please keep in mind that there may be a little more waiting time with this project compared to the WS6 and SS. Every new design takes awhile to piece together- and right now VFN is swamped with work as well!!!
Remember...1.concept, 2.process/approval, 3.design, 4.prototype, 5.pre-release/viewing, 6.mold, 7.production. And this idea is still at (1. concept!)
Cheers,
Layne

No center body line IMO. That is one thing I don't like about the classic cowl style. That and the tremendous overhang in the rear over the windshield.

I'm thinking about buying the hood at http://www.americansportscar.com/cgi...w.pl?s-700.jpg for a 2001 Camaro to clear a blower. What-a-ya think?

Anyone notice the grille on that car?
Pretty nice too. I could do without the bowtie though.
Where to get one of those I wonder?

Re: Someone make a 3" COWl!
The C5-R hood is exactly where my mind has been at recently. Great lines etc. What about the overall width? Could the rear be extended slightly? I think you're right about the height- maybe just a smidge more. Could the center rib be still used in a reduced fashion? Having a completely flat scoop top can lead to sagging as it ages and due to extreme heat(engine)- something to keep in mind. Perhaps some kind of very faint contour line or a very slight curve/arch?
I/we/VFN hears you- the original cowl type scoops are so dated....time for change!! Thanks for the feedback!

Layne

Re: Someone make a 3" COWl!
I think the width is OK, the rear would definitely look better if it angled back past a bit, I've always liked that, especially on the 4th gens where it's sweeping so hard anyway. The center ridge I could personally live with if it were smaller, but even if it's that big, i would dig it definitely. Might also look better if it came the rest of the way forward, or at least a wee bit. That would look good on all the 4th Gen Z's, 93+. Just my opinion though <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

I'll second that xssive, that C5-R hood without the center rib would be awesome. Maybe a wee bit taller, or two versions? I'd personally like to see one a little taller than what's pictured but the style of it is just awesome! Way better than anything I've seen out there. The LT1 cars would look really good with that style hood too, something that flows a little better on the sides instead of being so crisp!

Wow!!!
That hood is awesome!
Where do I get one?
Doesn't need to be taller or wider... I am not out for a gaudy hood, this one is just wild enough.
How about it VFN?
Dave

Re: Someone make a 3" COWl!
Layne,
First off thanks for listening to the suggestions. I wish more sponsors would actually take time to get feedback during the design stages of production. As far as the rib goes, I would rather see a slight arch to the whole cowl, not so much noticealble if the whole cowl was widened an inch or so on each side. Also, yea make the cowl extend back over the windshield. This is gonna be sweet...

Re: Someone make a 3" COWl!
the biggest thing that bugs me about these hood that are made for our cars are that they don't continue with the line that is already present in the bumper.......there's that center crease there and many aftermarket hoods don't continue with it like the stock ones do......and while it doesn't need to be anything as obvious as the C5R hood, I think it should be there if for no other purpose than to continue the line that is in the front bumper

Re: Someone make a 3" COWl!
The C5R hood would be perfect if it was a few inches wider. I love the hight and think it's perfect, not too little and not too much. That and if the crease was shrunk or totally removed. Come up with a hood like that and i'll buy it in a heartbeat
Here's a sloppy 5min photoshop of what i'm talking about...
