power hatch on a 4th gen?
like on the 3rd gens. would there be a concievable way of doing this? I kinda miss not having to slam the hatch like my old 3rd gen. I know there were always probs with the motors going out, ect. Would it be expensive to do this?

To give you an idea, I paid $450 for a new hatch motor for my '89 Formula 350 back in 1998 when I still had that car. I HATED that power motor. I'd much rather not have had it.
Can't say that I've seen anyone try and convert a 4th gen to power hatch yet. Probably cause most of us that had third gens never want to deal with that again!

Kinda like how a screen door works in your house. I remember this on my sisters 89' GTA and thought it was the coolest thing.

I just never had a problem with mine on my '89 formula. After getting used to not having to slam the hatch it sometimes feels weird slamming it on my '98. Or maybe i just feel weird cause i tell people not to slam the doors but then i go and slam the hatch.....

Too much complexity and cost compared to the useless "benefit" it provided. Compounding my problem was that my Alpine security system was wired to the courtesy light circuit, and when the &8%#@! hatch would start cycling up and down on its own, it would trigger my alarm.
A very stupid, useless feature.

I had a '86 TA with a 305 in it . It was a nice car for the time though. Anyway, I hated that power hatch. It was nothing but problems.

all i had to do was tell people not to slam the trunk just like i all tell people not to close the dorr by the windows, becides how many other people did you let touch your car? anyway i just have aproblem slamming the trunk of a $25+ thousand dollar car.

I'm thinking that the problems begin with these things when someone other than yourself tries to shut the hatch by slamming it.
And then, when it still won't completely close, they try to force it down.
The plastic gears and housing certainly didn't make the assembly resistant to that kind of treatment, either...

You'd have to cut up the trunk and fabricate a cover for it. Just for fun I had a friend at a wrecker lay out the assembly for this so I could look at doing this to my '94 Z28. Way too much trouble.
