Default HID headlight/foglight/projector setup opinions

Let me start by saying yes, I did search, and there was a ton to go through and I didn't get a lot of solid information either way.

I've decided on the sonar projectors for my 2002 Camaro. I want the DDM H1 55w 5000k ballasts for my lows. I see people mention buying the same wattage and color ballasts for their fog lights, but are they a different ballast than the lows?

Also, from what I've read, harnesses/adapters aren't required for lows or fogs? I see options for HID harness, error eliminator, and adapter cable when adding the ballasts to the cart - will any of those be required for install?

I'm sorry if these questions have been answered before, but I have a limited amount of time to be online and want to place my order ASAP.

Thanks!

You don't want to put 55W HIDs in your fogs. Housings may be metal and glass but I doubt they'll handle that much intense heat in such a small area. Go 35W.

Matching the color looks good appearance-wise, but technically fogs work best with a yellower light. For HID, that would be 3000k. Depends on what you're aiming for - function in fog, or general additional lighting and/or looks.

You want a harness for the fogs. With 55W on the lows, you'll probably want a harness there as well. If you did 35W then you're OK without one, but 55W will have enough of a turn-on surge that the stock wiring might not handle that and you may have issues with them not kicking on. Not sure, I ran 35W in my Sonars.

You don't need any error eliminators.

thanks for the input! are the 55w that much brighter to be a must have upgrade? also, i get what you mean about the fog light color - my maxima had bright white hids but yellow hued fogs, which was by design Im told. point taken.

Yes, they are brighter. Now how much more effective they are in the projectors, I really don't know. I only ever had 35W so I can't say from any experience with the 55W.

I would recommend doing the quad beam headlight mod, if you haven't already, so that when you flip on your high beams your lows stay on. Lets you see better, no moment of darkness when going from highs to lows, and also reduces wear and tear on the HIDs.

I wasn't able to find anything on the quad beam "mod" - is that just a second set of HID ballasts for the high beams?

Are the fog light ballasts also H1's or do they use a different model?

^ To your question OP about the quad beam. It's where you take and wire two wires together with one wire under the dash of the car causing the low beams to stay on when you hit the high beams but once you turn the highs off the lows still stay on. Long story short, when you have your highs on the lows are on, when the highs are off the lows are still on. And if your wondering when the highs AND lows are on, the fog lights stay on as well.

Actually not quite.

Yes, there are two wires (Yellow and Brown I think) that get connected together to keep lows on with the highs. Link:

However, the fogs will still turn off when you kick on the highs even after doing this. Keeping the fogs on is another mod. Link:

Hope that helps

^ Now that you said that I admit I was wrong about the fog lights lol. I completely forgot about the Fogs cutting off when you hit the high beamsbut the lows staying on. Thanks for clearing that up SparkyJJO for me and the OP.
