Default Questions on my Dash Plaque

Hey everyone! To start, I have a 2000 SS and have been doing little costmetic things to it to make it look a little better (SS grill, hurst 6 speed shifter, LSS, etc). I noticed when I first bought my car that it didnt have the "Camaro SS" dash plaque, but just the plain "Camaro" piece. I was under the impression that Super Sports got the SS plaque. I was just curious if the SS piece should have been installed when they did the appearance mods to my car to change it from a Z28 to SS? To clear up any confusion, YES my car has the RPO code WU8.

Is the Camaro SS plaque its own piece or does it attach over the old Camaro piece? I found these and wasn't sure if they were factory?

I also tried looking up a part number through GM parts direct and couldn't pinpoint anything. I found the piece, but it doesn't give a description or P/N. My car also doesn't have the stickers in the door saying it went to SLP for modification but that's a whole different story.

Any help would be awesome! Thanks guys

Good question - I'm interested as well. My SS came with the plain 'CAMARO' lettering as well.

The photo you provided looks like one from a sponsor, such as 6LiterEater

They are from after thoughts auto. I just had to look and see if they were a sponsor so that my thread wouldn't get locked for mentioning a non-sponsors products!

The "Camaro" one comes off, and that replaces it. I did the same with my car except I used an aftermarket dash plaque. The aftermarket ones have double stick tape, while the originals clip on the button holes if I remember correctly. I also moved mine to the center with a button on either side.

Matt that piece looks to be 99% identical to my factory Camaro SS dash plaque that came on my car. I don't think very many years (if any) of LS1 cars got this treatment.

I can show you my factory one sometime. It's out in Manhattan right now though.

they did it in 1996 - 1997. I'm not sure if any LS1 SS cars went to New Jersey. I've heard to

Do you have to take the whole radio bezel out or can you just pop the cover off with a pocket flat head screwdriver?

Sounds good, i keep looking in the for sale threads for people parting out there cars to find an SS one to pop right in. The picture of the ones i listed attach with double sided tape.

when i got my birth certificate from SLP they told me that the Z28's were shipped to them to have modifications done then they were shipped to dealerships . . . but i don't think i asked him about the SLP stickers on the doors, this was 5 years ago

It will be easier to remove the plaque if you remove the bezel.

Yeah it's not too hard to remove. Once your do you can just push the "Camaro" cover out through the two holes you will see. Better then using flathead.

if u have the base ss with no other options like dash plaque, ss key fobs, car cover and all the other slp options u dont get a slp sticker. My car is the same way. You should buy one, it really looks nice there.

I might have to do that. I think my car was pretty base for an SS sadly.

that sounds logical, my SS only options were power door locks, power windows and a cd player all from GM and the only SS stuff i had was my hood, spoiler and badges . . .pretty much a sleeper when i got it lol

Just to clear this up, the ss dash plaque DOES NOT clip in. The stock one is just a badge with a long strip of double sided tape. The only unit that clips in is the camaro plastic piece.

Anyone happen to have a picture of the ss dash plaque that came factory in the car?

I can vouch for both the 97 SS and 97 SS 30th Anniversary Edition dash plaques being double sideded tape. Obviously the 96 cars had the dash plaque had the plaque on the ash tray cover.

Here's a pic of my stock SS emblem.

The outer bezel pops right off. I'd suggest doing that if your replacing any emblems. It'll make it easier to pop the emblem off or clean up any tape/glue residue.

Alrighty, thanks for the picture! Might have to go ahead and buy one of those then. I just had to make sure whether or not it was an actual plastic plaque or stick on.
