Default 1st gen aftermarket steering wheel

Hi guys, wondering if anyone has put an aftermarket steering wheel in a 1st gen fbody, mainly a 1969 firebird? I'm sure tis been done; I would like something a bit thicker and more sturdy, its not entirely a fashion statement but it could look cool too haha, any suggestions? comments?

I was kind of eying the grant steering wheels, but don't know anything else besides momo & sparco. I think a detachable steering wheel would also make for a nice security feature but idk how compatable they are with 1st gens.

well anywho, pics would be friggin' awesome but a kick in the right direction is all im really looking for.

Thanks guys!!

I put an aftermarket steering wheel in my 71 Camaro and it worked out great. Any steering wheel will work as long as it's made to fit your car.

I put a Grant in my '68 Camaro. I re-drilled it and mounted it to a factory hub that was for the three spoke "Rosewood" wheel. Not as nice as leather but not bad for the $$$.

cool thanks guys, sweet pic! how about interchangeability? Im a bit leery of purchasing an adapter/install kit off ebay, thats the only place ive found so far with both the wheel and quick release adapter supposedly for a 69 bird but its either momo/momo or momo adapter grant wheel. I didn't think itd be complicated to replace a steering wheel lol.

It's pretty easy to replace the steering wheel in an older car, but sometime you need a puller to remove it.
