Default What headlight bulb are you currently using?

Im changing over from HIDs since they are garbage in the stock headlight housing.

Ive been looking at Sylvania Silverstars but they do not last long from what ive read and from the few I have purchased.

Im thinking about putting a 65w 9005 in to get a bit more output.

Also thoughts on Halogen vs Xenon lighting.

Look into philips xtreme bulbs or GE nighthawks. Any bulb with a blue coating offers less light output. You can also use a relay harness with halogens to get them powered from the battery.

I've run Silverstars, GE Nitehawks, and some ebay blue bulbs. Of course the ebay bulbs suck, what do you expect for $10 shipped. A friend ran some 9004 ebay bulbs in his Impala SS and the high beam was burnt out on one side as soon as he plugged them in. The silverstars are ok, but burn out easy. The silverstar ultras look like crap, I don't think they're as good as the original silverstars. The GE's were good, but I'm currently running Wagner Truview in my truck and I love them. They're white, not completely blue, but you can tell a huge difference in color when you go to high beam and back. The light output is great, and they're cheaper than silverstars.

Ya know I was gonna upgrade to HID's b/c the stock replacements werent bright enough & kinda yellowish, then last time I needed a bulb I saw a new version I believe called Xtreme's for a stock replacement. They are so friggin bright on just low beam I get flashed all the time & they aren't the yellowish color anymore. Tons better than I thought a regular replacement could be. Enough so it made me keep my money I was gonna use to buy a HID set-up, LOL.

High output halogen bulbs have reduced life expectancy, with them usually lasting half as long as a standard halogen bulb. Here's a good chart comparing all the halogen bulbs on the market and their specs. Note the reduced light output in lumens of the blue coated "extra white" bulbs like Silverstars and the others.

H1 (regular normal): 1550 lumens, 650 hours

Long Life (or "HalogenPlus+") 1460 lumens, 1200 hours

Plus-30 High Efficacy (Osram Super, Sylvania Xtravision, Narva Rangepower, Candlepower Bright Light, Tungsram High Output, Philips Premium): 1700 lumens, 350 hours

Plus-50 Ultra High Efficacy (Philips VisionPlus, Osram Silverstar, Narva Rangepower+50, Tungsram Megalicht, but not Sylvania Silverstar): 1750 lumens, 350 hours

Plus-80/90 Mega High Efficacy (Philips Xtreme Power, Osram Night Breaker): 1780 lumens, 340 hours

Blue coated 'extra white' (Osram CoolBlue, Narva Rangepower Blue, Philips BlueVision or CrystalVision, Tungsram Super Blue or EuroBlue, Sylvania Silverstar or Silverstar Ultra, which is just a rebrand of the Silverstar product, also PIAA, Hoen, Nokya, Polarg, etc): 1380 lumens, 250 hours

I have HID's and wouldn't use anything else. They are more than twice as bright as halogens and last 3 time longer.

Also will take the load off the stock harness if you are running a higher wattage bulb that could potentially burn stock wiring.

Really? HIDs in a halogen lens is for one Illegal, and two, the beam pattern is so scattered aiming these is nearly impossible.

Anyone who says others wise is ******* stupid.

HID bulbs don't scatter any more than a halogen bulb in a standard light housing. I had them in my Grand Prix and I have them in our minivan, nobody ever flashes their brights and they light up the road great. Removing the catalytic converters from a car is illegal too but I see many people doing it.
