I dont like going fast around curvy roads after I totalled my old car. Its going to take me a while before I can drive like I did 2 months ago. The tires are not going to be on my car long, I just wanted to see what they would drive and look like.

You should get some 11's for them 315's you have a bad contact patch with them on the wrong wheels.

Peace,
Craig.

Thumbs down

Wrong tire, wrong rim, and wrong air pressure . . . A bad accident waiting to happen.

Nice to see that there are tire shops that will continue to do this . . .

hmm, I know ppl who have ran 315's on 9 inch wheels for years and they have never had any problems. Like I said they are not going to be on the car that long I just wanted to see how they would look and drive. I like trying new things on MY car and I just thought id share what I tried, I know it isnt the safest thing to do.

I thinks its just concern for your well being that we all have at heart here. No one here wants to see you end up as a sticky in the off-topic section on where to send flowers.

I think it goes without saying that your car looks nice. Honestly, you have a nice looking ride. But, no, you should not be running that wheel and tire combo. You may wish to listen to NataSS. As you can see from his sig, he has done more than his share of high speed driving.

Again, no one is out to diss you. If we didn't care, we wouldn't post. Just to give you an idea of how I look at it. On the rear of my Z06, I have a 10.5" rim. The tires most folks upgrade to are 315/30/18 or the new 305-35-18 Nitto Drag Radials. But, folks actually look at thngs like front to rear variance, like this:

The 315-30/18 has an overall height of 94.50mm (this is the whole wheel/tire)

The 265-40/17 has an overall height of 106.00mm

The spreadsheet shows a delta of -2.6% in red, which is supposed to indicate too much variance front-to-rear.

FYI, switching to a 275/35-17 front (which would help to remove a little udersteer, especially with the meaty 315 rear) is a delta of only 0.4% (it has an overall height of 96.25

Hope that helps!

DOH! Had to edit this - I've been thinking about an 18" front, and the 275-35/18 is pretty common, but I don't think that's a common fitment for 17", so here's the info for a 265-35/17 (which is available in a Michelin Pilot):

92.75 height with a front-to-rear delta (still using the 315 rear) of 1.5% (which is not highlighted red,)
Here is a link to that spreadsheet:

Appreciate this post, exactly the view I was looking for because I found a good deal on some chrome rims 17x9.5's which I'm looking at tonight and wanted both chrome for my black Z28 & a more aggressive stance, especially in the rear, tired of the covered wagon look with these silver OE 16x8's. I think I'll probably go with 275's just to be on the safe side. I wanted 17x11's rear for the ultimate, but may do that later still kicking ideas around. Appreciate your post.

I agree , they look good but 75 $ could end up costing you ALOT more in the long run .
