Ive never seen anyone post pictures of this done so I will, I just had these put on a couple days ago. I did it for one I got the tires for 75 bucks and two they look so mean from the rear. Im running them at 18psi so the center doesnt wear fast. These rims are 17x9.5 Chrome ZO6 wheels.

 

That doesnt look nearly as outrageous as some people have said in the past.

Looks like the snow would kill traction but do you feel like the car hooks better from the regular 275's?

 

Ohh they hook! I used to have 17x11's with the same tires and they did hook a little better but I cant really tell that much. I used to have Goodyear F1's in the rear, I think anything hooks better than those. BTW the snow is all gone from the roads or else my car wouldnt even be out in the driveway.

I thought it would look much worse also. Maybe I will try that set up this spring while I'm waiting for my Boyds.

 

I bought them from a local guy, you might know him on here as "BLUBYU".

 

For normal driving and drag strip use I don't think you will have a problem but I wouldn't think you would want to do autocross with that setup. There would be too much flex.

not really a safe set-up. SHITTY for cornering and at high speed having the tires oversized that much is going to generate a ton of heat and you will be risking blow out.

what you could do and what would be a good idea to do are two entirely different things

 

I would not recommend such a low pressure for normal driving. Let the air out at the track but keep the manufacturer recommended pressure in for the street! They were not designed to run extended periods at 18psi.

 

i'veen thinking about putting them on my t/a did you use the stock wheels when you did this?

 

remember stock wheels are only 9" so it is a little narrower.

after seeing 315 BFG's, i would never attempt it, other than short dragstrip runs, ect.

but the good news is they throw gravel all over the cars behind you... (i followed a LT1 car for 45 miles with 315's on it... i gave him lots of distance

Can I offer a little advice? I know people have mentioned it already, but I would seriously reconsider having those tires on those wheels. If you notice the amount of "ballooning" past the egde of the rim, it will give you an indication of how much pressure the bead of the tire is under. 315's should at least be put on a 10.5 or larger rim. I am sure they hook alot better than the stockers in a straight line, but how often do you find yourself doing a little "spirited" driving down a twisty road? This tire and wheel combo could have some serious implications if you really start pounding on the corners some day. I dont even want to get into the ramifications of what could happen under a high speed situation. You could very easily pop the bead of the tire off under a lateral G load and it just gets ugly from there, for the car or you or both.

Not trying to rain on your parade, they do look good, just trying to offer some advice from the "been there, done that" peanut gallery.

 

I'd like to know which 'professional' tire shop actually mounted those size tires on those size rims - whomever they are, they're putting themselves in for a real lawsuit when you take that 1st sharp bend at high speed
