In December of 2016, I started this project with a 1999 coupe. First thing I did was convert it to an FRC.
25.5 cage/4-link/9”
RPM TH400/ProTorque Billet U9 converter
Current starter engine - Iron truck block/370”
TFS 245 heads
FIS Ultra Street class S476
BTR custom cam
On Methanol, no radiator, no inter cooler
Holley Dominator
built on jack stands in my garage. Hoping to fire it up this weekend.
Good luck on the fire up it’s been a long time coming
Thanks man. It’s hard to believe it’s taken so long, but with two job changes, a wedding in Hawaii, and a house reno that spiraled out of control, I couldn’t keep on it as much as I would have liked.
Your ride is an inspiration to this build. I’m hoping to run similar times. The car is built to go faster, but I’m not confident that the power plant is up to the task…. Atco will be the test track.
I gotta turbo ls buddy who lives in Hamilton who races at Atco sometimes, I can connect you guys. He's local friends with Mark F who has run DW in a '69 Camaro.
In December of 2016, I had a perfectly running race car. LS7 427 with w TH400 conversion. Still IRS and ran 1.27/9.45@141 with a used old converter that flashed to 7500rpm.
Then, I got the crazy idea to build a car for Ultra Street and NMCA Extreme Street. You know, back when the class was running low 5/high 4s…
I really prefer the hardtop look… so, out came the sawzall…
Because the headers are up/forward, I had to find placement for the coils… made up these brackets and they bolt to the OEM engine mount locations… since I am using a motor and mid plate.
WOW! Forgive my Corvette ignorance, but I would have had no idea you could cut one up and make a FRC out of a hatch. Very cool!
I also really dig the creative use on the mounts for the coils! Any chance you know the paint code on that color?
Car looks good any idea on what it weighs? Definitely keep us updated on how the rentals go
There is a thread on corvette forum specifically about weight. There are several other cars there built similar to mine that are in the 2500/2600 range without driver. One is even 2300!
Scaling and alignment are next week (I hope). I’ll be sure to post up.
