Default HUD for 4th gens

So I took a test drive in one of the 2010 camaros at the auto show this year and one of the things I liked the most was the heads up display that they have. I decided I wanted to see if this was possible for my TA, but after a lot of research, it seemed like most models from other cars would not fit due to different signals, size, etc. I then looked at the Defi models, but they are no longer produced. While browsing ebay I came across this model:
http://www.360infiniteusa.com/produc...hp?extraid=226

This draws the info directly from the OBDII plug, so there is no worry about signals not being right, etc. After emailing the company, I got some more pics showing that it is very compact as well, smaller than a cell phone. For now it would just rest on the dash, until I get a new dash pad to replace my cracked one. As for the issue of taking up the OBDII port, I also came across this:
http://www.amazon.com/Cable-J1962M-2.../dp/B000TMCX72

I am probably going to order in the next week and just wanted to get some opinions on it. In particular I wanted to get thoughts on the image displayed and if anyone has used items from this company before. Thanks!

I think it would look good if hidden. I would be worried about it sliding around. Ask the company if your windshield needs a special film for it. I looked in to getting one off another car and putting it in he Camaro but they said you need a special film on the windshield. Maybe not with this product, but I would ask. Let me know how it works, I might get one as well.

They supply a piece of tint for the windshield, but they said that the image is usually quite clear even without it. From the reading Ive done, the opinion seems to be split whether you need it. A lot of reviews of people who have done retrofits say that even with a normal windshield, they have no problem using HUDs. As for the sliding, a piece of double sided tape or putting one of those nonslip backings on the back should make it hold pretty well until I get a new dash pad to alter.

Looks like a solid unit. I have been doing research on using OEM GM HUD modules from Bonnevilles/Grand Prix, etc. and the main issue is not signal compatibility or windshield, but the physical space requirements due to the F-body dashboard/HVAC design. These "stick-on" units do not have that problem, and this one shows a lot more info than most similar units on eBay. I will definitely consider purchasing one of these. Please post a link to the eBay page...

P.S. With my testing, without a piece of tint on an F-body windshield you will get a slight double-image, but it's really not that bad. The fact that they also supply a piece of tint is nice.

Wasn't there a thread a long time ago of someone putting the corvette HUD in a camaro or firebird? I like the idea ing the plug in one but hard to find for an OBD1 car. There needs to be an obd2 to obd1 converter for stuff like this

This really interests me. I used to have a Grand Prix GTP that came with these and it was one of my favorite features of the car. In regards to needing the tint or whatever, the grand prix's had specially designed windshields to accommodate the HUD. I know 'cuz I had my windshield replaced and they asked if I had HUD. Now, there were many people who had regular windshields and didn't really notice a big difference. My only thought is that the tint piece they supply (looks very dark) would be very noticeable and might ruin the experience.

Do you have a link to the page and not just the picture?

No, people wanted to, but have never done it due to the space constraints. There is not enough room under an unmodified F-body dashboard to fit the Corvette HUD unit. It may be possible to use a Grand Prix or Bonneville HUD unit if you do some cutting to the panel underneath the crash panel. I was planning on doing that, but it is roughly $60 for the HUD unit, and another $30 for the dimmer and angle switch - plus having to remove/hack up the dashboard, and then having to wrap the modified panel in some material... Not really something I'm ready to do yet.

So how much roughly will the total cost of the unit be? I was just thinking about this the other day.

Here is the OBDII version: http://www.360infiniteusa.com/hud-rp...lug-p-396.html

Here is a simpler one for non-OBDII cars: http://www.360infiniteusa.com/hud-miles-p-281.html

No. Early 90s Bonnevilles had them, and they are still a trend today. C5 Corvettes had them. C6 Corvettes had them. 5th gen Camaros even have them.

Wow, kinda pricey, but looks to be pretty sweet.
OP- please post pics once installed.
Zex, did you put in an order?
Also, is the OBDII port splitter really necessary? If you need to use the port, isn't it as simple as just unplugging the HUD cord?

Wow, a lot cheaper than I expected. For some reason I was expecting the $500 range.

Will do. Just have to wait for next paycheck to come so I can pick it up. The splitter is definitely not necessary, it just makes things easier if you want to use HPTuners or something. Personally I have an Aeroforce scan gauge that uses the OBDII port, so I would be getting the splitter so I can run both at once.

They do have one that you tap into wires instead of plugging into OBDII. It is about $40 cheaper, but might run into some of the signal issues that were brought up before. The one thing I found out is that i believe only the OBDII one will display MPH, the others will only display KmPH. And with the wire in ones, you have to make sure what the rpm max is. They have a 6500 max and 7500max model. Hope this helps.
