Cant wait to prep and paint my LS6 intake and whisper lid. Would you follow the same prep procedures for a lid? Obviously, the material is much thinner...

I don't see why not. I'm getting ready to do a set of C5 fuel rail covers and I plan to use the exact same procedure for them as well.

Good to know! Did you sand it down by hand (I'm assuming you did..) What material did you use to grip the sand paper. Obviously, lots of curves on that intake! I'd imagine it can be difficult to sand the entire intake down equally.

I did the whole thing by hand. I don't know that there's any other way to do it effectively, honestly. Just fold the sandpaper over and go. I had a bunch of 180 and 400 left over that had adheisive backing (normally used with a sanding block), so I just folded it over and went to town.

Planning on prepping my intake and whisper lid for paint tomorrow. Do you think 1 can of adhesion promotor/primer would be enough to do both? Any idea on how many rattle cans of paint/clear I should grab? Was thinking two cans of each..

Also, on another topic. I have a white strut tower brace on my car I was thinking about painting to match as well. Can I just clean the brace up with some degreaser, dry it, primer it, then paint/clear it?

I think one can of the adhesion promotor should be fine, and two cans of paint and two cans of clear should also be good to do everything you want.

As far as the STB, I think your procedure would be fine.

Good luck.

how many coats of clear do you typically apply to the freshly painted intake?

Start light and progressively work your way up. I think both of mine were probably 3-4 coats. Just be careful when you start laying the heavier coats down that you don't go overboard...the clear will run pretty quick.

Looks good! I did my intake and radiator support, the prep work sucks, but well worth it.

Nice Results! It's tough to sand down in all the crevices of the intake, but it looks like you did a good job with it.

I've noticed it's been awhile since you've done your first intake, how's it holding up?
