Default 69 LS1 engine is in place.. is it done yet??

Well the LS1 is in place.. The shop managed to use the BRP mounts AND the S&P notched pan with a standard steering system.. NOT easy since the BRP mounts move the engine forward. I cant figure out why they do this since the motor was a LONG LONG way from the firewall and looked goofy (not to mention weight distribution).. We fabbed up a plate that moved the engine back 1 5/8 inches.. this allowed the headers to clear the steering box AND the oil pan to clear the centerlink.. Here you can see how tight a fit the headers are and if you look close you can see the custom relocation plate.

We also installed the custom radiator.. notice the in/out are on the same side. We were also able to find hoses that fit like they were made for the car at the local NAPA parts store, that saved a lot of fab work...

and here is the motor in place.. we also put in the new tilt steering column and started the Covans dash..

Well its moving fast.. hope you all dont mind the updates

Man, your shop kicks ***. Excellent work! Your car will be running/driving before mine is even finished being assembled lol. But, those photos do inspire me

Who made the radiator?

Yea.. the FRC are due for major rework but not till its home safe in the garage

Tony, yea they do kick major ***.. then again for them "time is money" so they need to clear the shop space -- Go to sponsors on my website and you will see who did my radiator.. im VERY VERY happy with it and the normal cost was $600 and that included the fan mounting brackets. I also like the "two on the right" design (plus I now have the perfect hose part numbers)

Also Tony, if you are running the BRP mounts you may want to consider doing what I did and moving the engine back a bit.. its VERY tight in the normal position and I would imagine its terrible for weight transfer and handling.. just a heads up.

I decided to reuse my stock power steering cooler so it's getting powder coated and I'll be able to use the factory Camaro hoses.

BE CAREFULL!!!!!!!!!! Rob (Poltergiest) did this and they got grit for the sanding process in the cooler section.. this proceded to destroy his rack/pinion..

Make sure they seal it up TIGHT..

I agree about the motor mounts and the weighttransfer. But, I see you didn't use AC in yours, so you can move it back. BRP moved it forward so that the ac could clear the subframe. I still think that even with the LS1 (all aluminum) engine 2 inches forward, I have a better front/back ratio than I did with my big block in its stock location. Plus, I finally have AC...and that is what I wanted. All that firewall clearance makes me long for a distributor motor again. (Well, not really)

AC?? whats that?

Yea, I can see that but someone needs to make a bracket that allows you to mount the AC up high and still use the factory PS and Alt.. best of both worlds

Big Block and good weight transfer rarely go together

They do. Mark got a bracket for his Vette . . . . .

Are you going to have heat??? - I see the ports capped off, and of course no holes for a blower motor or heater core . . .

I'll be mounting my coil packs on the backside of the heads, like on the Year One pace car. so, that room behind the engine will get good use. I also plan on installing A/C at a later date, so yes that BRP setup is good for clearance. I shouldn't have any tight issues, since I ditched the factory steering junk for the LS1 rack setup. I mainly did that because I wanted true longtubes

I'm glad you went with an LS1. Funny how your project has gotten 100x more involved than you originally planned, lol. I would expect no less from the Blingmeister.

We just got done fabricating my coil pack brackets using the design from Year One but we modified it a bit to make it stronger and avoid bouncing around. We also did some nice painting of the aluminum too. They look sweet! I'll post pics as soon as they're reassembled and mounted to the heads.
