So the hole that holds the bezel around the door handle is stripped out so it fits fairly loose. I'm wondering if I should try to just fiberglass the hole over again or if I should try to glue a piece of sheetmetal into the firberglass door and screw into that. If I do that what kind of glue would work to stick to the fiberglass? Or even easier could I fill the hole with something like JB Weld and screw into that after it hardens?

 

Man I got the same damn issue, my driverside is stripped & barely hold the bezel on there. And I know I have never removed the door panel so I'm curious how it got stripped.

For Glue, I'd say Gorilla glue, that **** is serious, LOL. Dont let it dry on your skin cause its not friendly to get off, trust me.

 

Yea I've messed with that glue before! I was just going between putting a thin sheet of aluminum in there to screw into or maybe even filling the hole with something and screwing into that. I'm not sure if putting sheet metal in there would affect the bezel sticking out from the panel itself unless I glued it to the backside of the fiberglass.

 

BTW for a quick fix I just wrapped the screw in electrical tape to make it a little thicker and jammed it in there like a pop rivet to hold for now.

 

thin piece of sheetmetal wont work lol. the panel literally sits right up against the fibergalss. the glue idea would work if you fill the hole and make sure it sits fairly flush it will work. i think thats the route im going. not totally sure though. try the glue and let me know if its works.

 

use a bigger screw

 

LOL, damn I cant believe I havent thought of that, I just keep pushing the screw in every single time I get in the car, LOL. I'm usually pretty good about finding a good temp solution but you beat me to this one, LOL

 

use an anchor, the little plasic ones from home depot, works great for me

 

I drilled the hole out a little bit and used a plastic automotive retainer. Ont of those that has the screw in the middle that makes it expand. It looks even better than the factory screw, has held longer than using a bigger screw and all around just seems to work better. If you need a pic I could go take one, but that's what I recommend to errbody. took 5 minutes to install both sides.

I recently tried the epoxy method and it pulled right out once I tried to drill a small pilot hole for the screw. I probably should have put some epoxy on the back side of the door but that would have been a pain to get to. I think I will try the retainer idea to fix mine now.

 

Use JB weld for plastic or get some body filler. I'm about to do the same thing.

I'd like to see it too. All the retainers I've seen stick out a little bit and if thats the case the bezel won't sit flush.

 

I went to a hardware store and they had this metal tab that grabbed the stock screw. it worked for a while but the last time i got into the door i think it broke off the door (i had it glued and duct taped) so right now the door bezel is tight but i don't know how i'd be able to get it off if i needed to as i think the screw is free spinning in there. it's possible i could grab it as i loosened it and have the metal tab come off of it but since i have no reason to get into the door right now i'm just gonna leave it for now.

P.S. This is the final fix. Nothing else will work as well as this does. No need to take door panel apart or even the bezel off. Remove the screw, drill with a 5/16" bit and place fastener in and tighten the screw down!

 

^Thats the way to go right there guys. I was thinking the same thing I bet most others were thinking, a push style not a screw style fastener. Good job man, that looks good. Now I know what to do to fix mine. I might go ahead & do both sides at the same time just to prevent the passenger side from doin the same thing.

 

Use a screwdriver to pull out on the screw head as you turn. When it's out far enough use a needle nose pliars to pry out on the screw without grabbing it and keep turning it out.

 

No point in just doing one. the package has at least two retainers in it and it'll take you longer to take your old screw out than to do the rest!

 

dumb question but where did u get the retainer and whats it called because otherwise ill spend a whole day lookin for one
