How to get wheel locks off!
Hey guys and gals,
On my 02 ws6 the stupid previous owner didn't give me the wheel locks. How can I get them off? I was at gm this morning and they said they can't trace it back through the s/n. What can I do! how can I get a replacement key?

I'm guessing the manufacturers name isn't labeled anywhere on the locks huh? Gorilla is a pretty popular wheel lock company, though it's a small chance they would be this kind, you could try contacting them and see what they say. I'm sure theres a way to do it.
BTW do you have any pics of your electron blue TA 'vert? I'd love to see them if you do, I'll be painting my car EB this summer

I know how thieves do it, but it will probably cost you 4 sockets.
Find the right size socket that will barely not fit (12-point works better) onto the lug. Stick a 6" extension into the end of the socket. Hammer that sucker so that the socket seats onto the lug nut (drives grooves right into it).
Then just use a socket wrench to loosen the lug. Sometimes the lugs get permanently stuck in the socket, so go ahead and buy 4 sockets and just return the one(s) you didn't have to use.

Re: How to get wheel locks off!
the local GM dealer should be able to get you a replacement key.
My local dealer, went to my car, with the box of 6-12 keys, and tried them all.
Then offered me to take them all off free, or sell me the key for $20
I bought the key.

You may have to tack weld a short upside down bolt to them and get them off with a deep well socket. They'll be ruined but they'll be off the car. A new set doesn't cost too much. Worst case scenario, you may have to replace the stud.

Re: How to get wheel locks off!
Just hammer a socket on, I used one socket and it worked for all four wheels. It literally took an extra minute to takes the wheels off.
However, after seeing that I bought a set of locks that are smooth round on the outside and require an odd shaped "key" that fits inside.

Does anyone else have a 2002 to check to see if these are stock? I don't see why the guy would have replaced them... They're still threaded for the nut-cap

There are kits to remove locking lug nuts. It's basicaly a variety of tappered sockets. Have you asked a tire store or someone to remove them? You can get them off w/o damaging the wheel.

Re: How to get wheel locks off!
Your local dealer has a complete set of keys. Just make sure you have proof of ownership and they should let you use the set. Some dealerships, the service dept has the set and others the parts dept has it. ALL GM STORES SHOULD HAVE THE SET!

Re: How to get wheel locks off!
Do you have aluminum wheels on your TA? If so they should be relatively easy to take off (loose anyways). Using a socket and hammering it onto the wheel locks should work pretty well if they are aluminum. I say go for that like the others suggested.

Re: How to get wheel locks off!
once we were stripping a stang up north (its legit) and it had those locks with no keys. we took a socket up to it and put a quick tack weld. not exactly the nicest way to do it...but nonetheless effective

Re: How to get wheel locks off!
I was considering just welding a big nut onto the end of the lock - the problem is is that I don't want the welding to burn the finish on the wheel. I'm going to try to get the locks off of it this coming weekend, if I have to wreck them then I guess I'll just buy a new set.

Re: How to get wheel locks off!
I agree with what someone else has already said. Go to a tire place like NTB or Discount and pay them $20 to bust them off for you. You'll end up screwing up a rim trying and it'll cost alot more than $20 to fix. When I got mine I couldn't find the key to it either and had NTB bust them off for me. Then 2 weeks later the key just "appeared" in the hatch area. Still not sure where it was.
