New tint idea...will this work?
I've been toying with this for some time.
Ever see the BMWs and Benzos when they are tinted? They have the black/mirror look. The mirror effect because of the stock windows.
I was thinking of having the car tinted 35% mirror all the way around and then on top (technically) underneath the mirror doing 5% black limo like I have now.
I know people double up on tint so I know it can be done and I'm not too worried about distortion because the 35% mirror is extremely see through.
I think this would look very nice. Like a black chrome look.
Anyone work at a tint shop and willling to try this with me in IL?
It would be very expensive so I am hesitant.
$$removing current tint
$$$$tinting whole car twice!

Well the one place that would do it will also warrant it.
That is great.
Only problem is it'll be damn expensive like I though.
Removing rear tint because of defroster is expensive and then 2 tint jobs.
about the $500 range. That's what I thought, so I am going to have to give it ALOT of thought.
It would look cool though!

i dont know much about tint but.. do you stick it on the inside or outside of the glass? either way, what would happen if you put the dark tint on the inside and the mirror tint on the outside or vice versa? that way you would only be sticking th tint to glas as opposed to more tint

I know a lot of people do double up tint but a lot of the good tint places won't do it or at least warranty it because it is WAY more likely to peel. When you're putting the tint on more tint and not the actual window it is a lot more likely not to hold well.
The guy I go to has been tinting for 11 years, and I wouldn't take my car anywhere else for tinting. When I brought my first car to him, it already had a lighter tint on it and I just wanted to put it over. He strongly reccommended me not to, and I had them remove the old tint and start all over. I'm glad I listened to him.
You could always try it though, tint isn't very expensive. If you don't like it or it doesn't hold up well it can be removed fairly easily

That is done very often. Friend has red tint and mirror behind it. Plus if you want you can cut the first layer of tint with a design, like flames, tribal, etc and then throw another latyer of mirror on it. That also looks good when done correctly and in good taste. Pricey though.....

Inssane,
I think you better think about the order that you want the tint. If you want it to look like black chrome, you better put the 5% on first, then the mirror. Like Scotto said, people put designes on and want it to stand out, so they put mirror behind it.

The black...being DARKER needs to penetrate the mirror...being LIGHTER. This means that mirror first, black underneath.
Nothing can be seen through 5%. It's almost as dark as it comes. I know cause I already have it.

I would like to see this done..... BUT WOW you guys must have some reeming out ******** up north. I can get my whole car tinted for 80 bucks. and this isn't that cheap autozone tint either... this stuff comes from a self owned company out of arkansas. I paid 40 bucks to get my side windows in 5% and I left the back 15 from a previous tint job but it wasn't gunna cost me but 40 to get the back done too.

Re: New tint idea...will this work?
The mirror is lighter but technically it holds like a 7 percent so my advice to you is to put on a 20% black film then the mirror tint on last so all you will be doing is giving the mirror tint a darkened look just my 02.
