Default Which Fuel Rail Covers to use

Hey everyone. I am a new register, but not new to this site. I wanted to say a quick thank you for all the info that I have been able to gather from the various posts. My question is about FRC's. I have an 02 WS.6 Which FRC's will require the least amount of modification. I understand that GM replaced old version with 2 holes for fuel lines, and I obviously need these two holes, but will the old model fit on my newer LS1? I think I heard something about the heads or intakes being different on 99 vettes and up.

I have a set with one hole, and have a set on order from GM Parts direct with the two holes.

I am going to have them painted to match the bird decals on my hood.

Anyone know which ones?

First and foremost, welcome to the best LS1 related site in the world!

Now, on to the subject at hand...

There are several options for fbody LS1 FRC's. You can go with the Z06 FRC's (have to cut another fuel line hole), the C5 FRC's (already has two fuel line holes), Fast Toys FRC's, etc...

You'll have to cut (w/ a rotary tool preferrably) the C5 and Z06 FRC's quite a bit in order for them to fit properly especially if you have a '98-'00 LS1. Your '02 will be easier since you don't have the AIR/EGR crap to deal with.

Here are two pics of my C5 vette FRC's. BTW, you don't have to cut the passenger side cover near the throttle bracket like I did. Sometime gave me bunk directions. Good Luck!

Thanks for the welcome!

I think I will use the "C5" covers. Probably less cutting.

The biggest question. Do both kinds mount the same with regard to the pins that snap into place?

I got mine from http://www.sdpc2000.com/ (a sponsor <pat on the back>), but they are cheaper at GMpartsdirect.com.

I read the same ones but realised all that hacking wasn't necessary. Just a slit for the throttle cable bracket istead of cutting the entire corner off. On my 98 the rear of the same side didn't need cut for any cruise equip either.

Actually, those are the same directions that I followed. However, I asked someone here about cutting near the throttle bracket and I was told to just cut completely around it. I should've cut a little slit in it. Oh well, I'm getting a new (used LS1) soon anyway. I'll do it right then. You can hack the back of the FRC's all you want 'cuz the cowl covers about 50% of them. You can't see that far back.

Since I just put a set on my car tonight, I'll throw my 2 cents in here.

Let it be know, these things are a pita, especially the passenger side. I did the driver's side first and after some wiggling, pushing, and bending a bracket, it went on without any cutting. The bracket is a small metal clip that one of the cables slips into, I just bent it forward out of the way and the cover went right on there. Also, the metallic tape on the hoses, you will need to remove it.

The passenger side was a different story. All I had to cut on it was a notch at the throttle bracket and drill a hole for the dipstick. The hard part was moving all the cables and hoses to get it to go down on there. It took me about 2 hours of taking it in and out, moving different things, and wrestling it around, it finally went on there.

I used covers from the 97-98 C5's, these have the two slits on the passenger side for the hoses, so they require very little cutting. What I did cut looks alright, I'm going to pull them off again some time and fill the CORVETTE letters, paint them, and add some badges, so I'll dress the holes up a bit more, but they look fine now.

Another thing I found that made things a bit easier, was I removed the hoses for the AIR lines, while trying to get them on. This gave me a lot more room and I just reconnected them after the covers were on.

I haven't taken pictures yet, but I'm going to try to tonight and start working on a right up for installing these. I know about the install page posted a few threads up, but I believe it can be done with less cutting.

So to answer the question of the original poster, get the 97-98 C5 covers. These won't require you to cut the extra slit in the driver side, which would be the hardest cut to make.

Thanks alot! That's the kind of response I was looking for.

I have a guy here in IL ready to fill mine and paint them to match my Collector Yellow. Then he is going to custom stensil a smaller version of the bird and stripe that is on my hood. My STB is black. That way when you open the hood, the same look of the nostrils will be on the engine.

What do you think?

Ugh, i should have done some more research before i got these painted lol. I hope that mine won't get screwed up while trying to go in! I'd rather cut, shave, destroy parts of the entire before my custom painted fuel rail covers! lol.

The bottom numbered covers are identical to the Z06 covers, but they are black. They are the covers they have put on the C5 since 99. If you want the Red Z06 covers, there are a different set of numbers you need. I know because I originally got the red covers by mistake when I ordered them from a local dealer.

If you want the red covers, I will look for the numbers for you. Let me know.
