Thumbs up PICS! Square hole, round exh tips on TAs, solution

This is something always on my mind. After buying an SS just to do the CME, I'm in love with that A$$! It just looks like a finished look. Look around most sports cars now have a finished rear bumper with exh tips that look like they belong!

Point is the 4th gen TA rear bumpers never looked right to me. The square rear bumper opening with round or oval tips. I think most stock LS1 tips looked ok but one of our first mods is a catback and there go the tips in the dump.

So I've kicked around the idea of filling that entire space for a long time. What could I use, how to mount it, how to form it with the bumper contour and most of all make it look OE, not some hack job.

With the rainny day today, I put my ideas together. I got rid of my dual oval tips and put Corsa 3.5 tips this week. I made several templates and cut out my design on some thin bushed alum. OMG!!! I have both on right now, looks like there is no square hole! just the polished tips popping out. The contrast in fantastic, the covers don't over shadow the tips. Your eyes just focus on the polished tips.

Right now they are taped on as I need to run to Home Dept to get some brackets. I will use HD 3m double sided tape or liquid nail for the cover. I think the 3m tape would get too hot with the tips there.

Color, I'm a bit torn, the brushed alum looks kick *** but flat black or custom painted to look carbon fiber could look good too.

I wanted to get this out since they look SO sick. I expect to post them up on or before Sunday.

Huh? You say it won't look like a hack job but I'm picturing a complete hack job.

I completely agree that the round tips do not look like they belong on a T/A. When I put in my catback I cut the factory tips off and cut some pipe off the catback then welded the stock tips onto the catback. The tips fit inside the pipe up to where the tip buldged out.

I cant imagine what you are talking about.

i think the closest fit for the rear would be the borla quad intercooled tips. not square, not round but somewhat in the middle.

but that just my opinion.

Without pictures, this thread is full of fail

Not even a teaser? I don't have a TA bumper, but I am a bit curious on how this turns out.

To me this looks FANTASTIC! Took me a few hours today to make the brackets on the driver side still need to make the ones for the right side.

The one pic that has both, is held on with tape the driver side is final.

Doesn't look like ***, more like ASSTASTIC!

Could paint it white but I like the blushed Alum...

Anyone who knows the little out of norm mods I do know I do them right. Just look up my TA C5 cluster...

subscribed for final product...but I'm not expecting anything too great. I personally think our T/As look "complete" with diffusers

Those panels don't look right to me. Good idea but to look right I think they need to even with the bumper on both sides and the bottom needs to be rolled under to give it a finished look

It looks OK. The problem is how are you planning on adhering them to the bumper? The way I see it, the plate is too close to the tips and I believe it'll cause rattling. Add the variable of increased temperature, adhesive is out of the question.

I think they look pretty cool , i always hated the "unfinished" look on our bumpers , I've always wanted a T/A bumper with a 6LE rear diffuser , but this also looks cool , Id consider getting this if it was produced and sold ..
