Default Flat black engine bay

Im pulling the motor out of my pewter SS tomorrow and i wanna do some cleaning up in the like the wire mod and I was thinking about repainting the bay flat black. Has anyone ever done this? How do you guys think this would look? Or would you just respray it pewter? All suggestions welcome along with anything else you can think of the might make the bay look a little cleaner.

I think painting the engine bay black (matte or gloss) would look hot on a pewter car. I wanted to do the same for mine when the motor was out but didn't have the ***** to rattlecan it or the money to get it done right.

Tru dat boi. I never liked glossy engine bays; it jus' didn't look right. I think matte would look better than flat though.

i dont think flat looks good under the hood at all, i have seen some killer engine bays and the flat black imo just killed it.just my 2 cents lol

I thought in terms of "glossiness" the flow went:

Gloss > Semi-Gloss > Satin > Matte > Flat

Satin or Matte has a sheen to it that would look better than flat in my opinion.

Well I have a pewter trans am that I just rebuilt the motor in. While it was out I smoothed, filled holes, and painted the engine bay matte black.

"They way it was explained to me by a paint chemist was that Flat was the lowest, then Matte gloss was little higher, then Satin was next highest, then Semi-Gloss, the something called reduced sheen, then the highest or full gloss."

off google

I would do satin/semi gloss instead. It has a more finished look. It's how GM did it for years...

Question for those of you who paint your engine bay:
Where are the edges for where you stop the paint so that the edge doesn't stand out?
