If you were to go ULTRA budget on a kit, what products are ok to buy off the shelf at like auto zone, advanced, etc and add good name brand products like wax, sealants, etc? For instance, is it ok to use Blue Coral car wash soap, house microfiber mitts and waffle weave towels, etc. Only thing I wouldn't skimp on would be the wax.

Good products aren't always expensive. You can get mitts and MF waffle weave towels really cheap look at Chemical Guys or Towel Pros or there's another big MF place.

3d pink car soap is 13.95 a gallon and works good in a foam gun or traditional wash and HD Poxy is 19.99 for a 16oz or 29.99 for a 32oz and it will last 3-4months easy durability wise.

I want to know this too. Every detail spray I've used has resulted in smears.

They do a very good job at marketing, its all perception. The name on the bottle changes what people think of products

I don't know if all of his products are great or not. His detail spray seems to be.

I agree a lot of it is marketing. He takes a lot of the confusion and stress out of paint correction if a person is wanting to do it and not spend endless hours on the internet searching for what works and what doesn't.

The man is pretty damn smart. I haven't seen anyone else do what he does.

Clean microfiber, spray on panal and wipe dry to get dust off, on certain occasions only.

The same detailer that works on any color. Its how you use it.

Megs, Zaino, Optimum (ONR), are my personal favorites.

Doh! I didn't realize fikse wheels were uncoated.

Still, I use that write up all the time on cleared wheels with fantastic results. They've gotten even nice now that I have a rotary. Great resource for the tech community.

Speaking of rotary, what are your thoughts on the Makita 9227 ? Thats the tool I bought and maybe it's just the fact that I've never owned a rotary, but this thing feels like a work of art!

Agreed. ONR V3 is probably my favorite. I'm also a huge fan of Ultima Waterless Wash + diluted down to QD strength. It's a fantastic product, and it's a concentrated formula so you get quite a bit of product for the money.
