I waxed my car, now what?
Hey everyone!
I waxed my car 3 weeks ago with Mother's wax and it looked amazing. But, after a couple weeks that really nice shine isn't as shiny as it was the day it got waxed.
So my question is, what is a good way to keep my black car looking like it just got waxed everyday? Other than washing the car, are there compounds I can apply or should I stay away from that?
Thanks!

first tar remove car. then wash well. then get mcguiers #7 car show glaze. then use mcguiers #20 polymer seal. this is what most people use after a car just got paint or just rolled of the assymbly line. it last for a very long time and it sure does shine.

So a paint sealant huh?
Should I wait for the wax to wear off more or is this something I can go ahead and do? The durability is something I really want bc the less I have to actually touch my car, the less chance of scratches/swirl marks.
Thanks for the info guys, I'm gonna take a look at doing this

what i would do is tar remove the car wd-40 works fine to get all the tar off. then wash the car. go to a paint or body shop sell most mcguiers and get the #7. you just rub onto car and wipe off it will leave the car very smooth feeling, then get the #20 polymer seal then use it just like wax. wipe on part of car wait for it to dry wipe off. it lasted probably a year and a half when i did it on my dads truck it was shiney. it is like 30 dollars for that but you have enough for 2 times doing this to your car. you will be very pleased. good luck.

I've been all over this one as I have owned nothing but black cars all my life.
The best I have found for shine / wear / swirl marks is:
1. Mequiars Clay bar kit (do it just like they tell you)
2. Mequiar polish after that
3. Mequiar tech wax
Then every few days, go over her with Meguiars Ultimate Detailer.
That black car will look like a million bucks with a show car finish.
Until you decide to wash her, the detailer will keep her looking great.
The finish you generated with the clay bar and polish will allow the car to wash up real easy.
Clay bar once a year under normal driving.
No, I don't work for Meguiars but, their products are better than anyones.

Most OTC waxes only lasts a few weeks. Wash your car with Dawn to remove the rest of the wax. They claim that it dries out the trim, so just make sure you rinse it off your trim really well.
Use a clay bar to decontaminate your paint. There should be directions on the box on how to use it. Just make sure that you keep the paint well lubricated so you don't leave clay marring.
You can use a pre wax cleaner to even further decontaminate the paint and make it smooth.
I HIGHLY suggest you pick up some Collinite 845 at Autozone or O Reillys. It is a Hybrid Sealent/Wax that lasts about 6 months. Best wax available to the public IMO. Has the shine and durability. Just make sure you apply it VERY thin. Shake the bottle until it has become the consistancy of milk. One small drop will do a whole entire panel. Oh yeah and its only $16 for a bottle.

I've used Turtle wax, ICE and carnauba), Zymol, (which is expensive but very good), Nu Finish, (nice but leaves powder), Mothers, (short life) and Zainos which is really good but hard to find.
My thoughts on wear rate for finishes is a little different than most guys.
I want my finish to last a month at most.
Claying once a year, polish twice a year and wax once a month.
Meguairs has really nice spray on wax along with their super detailer that will hold a good finish until you decide to clean her up again.
I use their gold standard wash for clean up.
