Default Pictures Of Engine Bay Makeover In Progress

I have filled in all holes on fenders and I also filled in the seems that were once there. Now I'm trying to decide what color to paint the engine bay probably going to go with black. I have included some attachments hopefully they will work I have never done this before.

The work looks great. I have a ton of questions. Are you going to paint it and clear it? Are you going to use regular automotive paint? It looks like you remove the fenders, is that right? What else did you remove? It looks like the hood is gone. Did you removed the fuse box? How hard was that? Did you do anything to the firewall?

I have my engine out and will be painting the bay too. I wish I had enough remove to pull and store the fenders, hood etc.

It would be best to remove the fenders so you don't get paint or damage them. I have not decided on what paint to use as of yet. I don't know if I should let the body shop handle that chore with regular automotive paint or if I should use some type of heavy duty paint like the por15 type stuff. The fuse box and all is still on the car its just hanging down. I think it was just a couple of bolts and then you are able to move it all to the side you don't have to completely remove it though. I didn't do anything to the firewall other than put a stainless steel plate to cover up the hole left after removing the AC and the rest of it is just primered right now.

If the car isn't black, I'd paint it the body color using BC/CC. Black will show dirt and be harder to keep clean.

What did you use to fill in the seams and the holes?

I used some kind of plastic epoxy my father brought from his job. I will see if I can find the cans and tell you what the name is. It hardens pretty quickly and its pretty easy to sand down.

Not a regular bondo? Please let me know as I am more body illiterate than mechanical. Did you take it to metal or does it bond to the paint too?

Thanks for your help.

nope not a regular bondo. Its a two part epoxy that you mix together. I didn't have to take it down to bare metal. Its more an industrial type epoxy I think its used on pvc piping or something to that extent to seal and bond them permanantely.

Definitely let me know what it is when you can. My son came by and was suggesting using dynaglass to fill and then a bondo on top of that to smooth. He said too thick of bondo would crack but the bondo following dynaglass would work. However, the epoxy sounds real interesting.

How difficult was it to remove the fenders? What was the procedure?

Thanks

That looks really good! Almost creepy looking to see them so smooth. I'm sure you miss those sharp edges and little burrs now don't you?
