Personalized Plate Dilemma
I just got notice from the DMV that my personalized license plate "427 Bird" has come in. This is great timing seeing that I may be finally taking my car in to have the 427 put in in a couple of weeks. Now I'm second guessing my plate choice. I'm worried that someone will see this and want to steal the car or that a cop will see this and want to pull me over. Am I being overly paranoid? I kinda like it because most people won't really get it but the people who do, will be the people who matter. What do you all think? Keep it or go with something else?

Re: Personalized Plate Dilemma
A lot of people have personalized plates. As far as people wanting it more or cops wanting to pull you over, it's a chance we're all willing to take. The stealing part is more far off than the cop part though, having custom tags will make your car stand out in front of cops.

Re: Personalized Plate Dilemma
My license plate says SSPEED. I haven't noticed any more police attention because of the plate. I've had it on both of my SS's, and was pulled over twice for speeding, but if I had sslow, I still would have gotten pulled over. Hey, I was sspeeding!
Don't let the cops stop you from running the plate you want. No disrespect to them, but the majority wouldn't know what 427 Bird means anyway.

Re: Personalized Plate Dilemma
It really doesn't matter that much. My plate on my car says I RISK IT(IRISKIT). Every time a cop stops me they look at the plate. But I have gotten off for 72 in a 55 by a county cop. And I'm a pretty young guy too. I was thinkin this cop was going to try to screw a young guy with nice car. But he let me off with a warning, and he did ask me about the plate. Go with the custom plate, although I would never entail what I had in the car i.e.(TWNTRBO, BLOWN, 422WS6, etc.) for racing purposes; have to maintain a bit of sleeperness.

Re: Personalized Plate Dilemma
Great, thanks for the replies I kinda agree about the sleeper thing - but most people in L.A. with nice/fast cars don't know the first thing about cars and would be clueless about the 427. Maybe I'll try a couple different plate ideas today and then decide for sure. I love the fact you can plug them in online to see if they are available. Thanks again

Re: Personalized Plate Dilemma
Thats nothing, look at the name "BYOFICR"...friend of mine had that on the plates. He did get pulled over quite a bit. At least it was cool. I dont think your plate would have quite the same effect

Re: Personalized Plate Dilemma
I got pulled over by a trooper and was given a $290 ticket for speeding and racing . My LP says
(UB2SLO) and as the trooper was walking away he told me I needed to get a Plate that said " I drive real Slow" But I would have got the ticket anyway.

Well, my plate says "SSLOW", as in NOT slow since I'm basically a smart *** and so far (knock on wood) I haven't had any additional attention from the cops. I do however seem to get challenged more on the street now which was my intent.

Re: Personalized Plate Dilemma
I have been pulled over 1 time since having my plate: PWRTRIP (power trip) reason being..late at night near a local racing hotspot..i was following a ricer with exhaust who revved at me a few miles back and did the whole get behind me and fly by me but not actually get beside me and do it up for real so I followed him hoping he would lead me to where I wanted to go but he was going past the road so I flashed my lights on and off at him a few times ..well coming the other way at the stop sign was a cop ...the ricer goes straight..I turn on Garfield Ave (the racing hot spot) in disgust hoping to find somebody else and I realize the cop was sitting there..he turned around put on the lights and asked me what that was all about ..haha ..I said " oh, thats my buddy and he was supposed to turn there so we could go to superior (town in wisconsin across the bridge) and he missed the turn so I was trying to get his attention..nothing more" I thought it was a good save..the cop went on to ask all about the car and commented on the plate..he did run my license and checked on me ..also asked me how fast I have gotten it...I told him no way I was going to admit anything to him.
anyways.. don't worry about the plate..somebody on this board has CYA COP on his plates.. THAT would make me nervous

Re: Personalized Plate Dilemma
I wouldnt worry about it.. especially the getting stolen part.
I hope that my new plate will acutally help get me some slack cut if I get pulled over

Its sort of a take off on the old USA 1 plates..

Don't worry too much about being pulled over because of your plate. Nowadays, unless you've been speeding or created some other infraction, chances are you won't be harassed. Cops, like anyone else can have bad days. They're only human. Just remember, if you are pulled over, to say "yes sir"(or ma'am), and be very courteous. While you're saying "yes sir",(yes sir, three bags full), try to imagine yourself saluting with reverence in your mind's eye. Do show respect, though, as cops have a pretty tough job.
Things have changed alot since I was younger. I recall how relieved I felt after cutting shoulder length hair. We "hippies" were a target.
People WILL notice your plate if you're speeding, though. "That's right officer, the guy flew by me like I was standin' still. His marker plate was 427......"

Re: Personalized Plate Dilemma
I just got my new ones yesterday. I had "LS1 M6" for a year, which wasn't bad but not what I wanted. I just got "BLWN LS1", so guess I can't ever take the supercharger off!
