EDIT: I might consider painting the valve covers black, it would almost hide them 100%. Just a thought.

Yea see I thought the red would look good against the gray of the FAST. But invisible is what I was picturing in my mind. Like if you couldn't even see the harness or the bracket... perfect. Painting the valve cover black would practically make them vanish.

I think next to a relocation, that might be the next best thing.

If you want to get really creative, you could trim some of the bracket that you don't need.

I saw somewhere where someone did that, they just left the top and did some trimming on the place where coil mounts and I thought it looked funny like the coil was kind of "floating" off of the valve cover. I might try and dig up that post.

I'll post up some pictures of it red mounted up on the engine tomorrow and we'll see if I end up doing them black.

Ahh well after painted all the stuff and putting it back together, I really don't like it to much.

Note however that the wires are hidden pretty well.

This made me decide two things.

1- I'm not going to be painting these things again, they will be powder coated. Black that is.
2- I am going to be trimming the brackets

I spent about an hour today with a pen tracing around my coils and marking areas that will be deleted when i get the dremel out.

Might be a little bit before I can get to cutting as I am busy as crap next week, but I make sure to post up pictures before they get powder coated.

What is the members name on this site that specializes in the powder coats?

probably a really stupid question but how did you get your coils so black? Mine are faded and not that glossy. You paint?

Yeah I bought some black engine paint (semi gloss) so I could black out the white rubber back section, and then i just lightly dusted them all over with 2 to 3 coats. I wanted them to look somewhat natural because they had faded. I'm really happy with the way the coils turned out.

Nicely done man.. The red on red clashes horribly however. Getting the valve covers black will complete this little project (as well as some trimming).

He does good however he is extremely expensive. I suggest talking to a few people around to see who does powder coating and see some of their work and prices.
My buddy got his MAF ends/valve covers/TB/timing cover done for under 175$. That was sand blasting/prepping/etc etc and they came out perfect.

As soon as I set it down I pretty much hated it.

Yes I sent him a pm for a quote, I'm also going to ask the local guy that my body shop works with how much he will do it for and compare the two.

I will most likely keep it local just to avoid shipping cost.

So I laid out my brackets and looked at them for a while thinking how would be the best way to trim them up. Broke out the sharpie and started drawing.

This is what I came up with and I'm sorry for the bad quality.

I was pretty eager to get started as I won't be able to get back to them until next weekend, so I broke out the compressor and the grinder and got to work.

This is as far as I got tonight.

To give you an idea of where the material was removed from, here are the pieces laying on the other intact bracket.

I feel like the coils will move around with only one mounting point

If I have any problems with them drooping or moving, the long straight piece that its being completely cut off will be moved up and welded up the 4 new smaller brackets to tie them together and give them something to rest on.
