LT1 on LS1 camaro tail lights wiring w/pics
I just did the wire mod to make the LS1 harness compatible with making the whole red part of the tail lights light up in parking light mode, while still retaining the stock bulb sockets and keeping stock look. I know this has been explained before but I couldnt find any pics and I saw people asking for them so hopefully this can help some people.
First here is the before and after shots:
Before
After
First I took the turn signal socket and pulled out the green rubber block from the middle and put my positive wire into the opening and made sure there was good contact, then I just shoved the rubber piece back in around the wire and that was more than enough to keep the wire in place so it has constant contact and takes up enough space to keep it kind of water proof.
Then I cut off a section of insulation from the brown wire coming from the brake light socket with a razor, cut around the wire in two spots far enough apart to be able to connect my new wire to the brown one. then i cut a slit from one cut to the other and just peeled the insulation from the wire.
I then wrapped the red wire around the other two wires coming from the turn signal socket just to make sure it would follow the other two wires and not come loose. then I fed it through the wiring loom and past the stock loom tape, then I test fit the wire and trimmed to fit where the wiring would make contact with the brown wire.
Then I split the threads of wire in half and wrapped the brown wire with the threads that I split in different directions so that it would stay in place.
Finally I wrapped the whole connection with electrical tape and ran a lighter over the tape to help shrink it. It looks pretty clean and doesnt have those wire clamp connectors.
Newer Pic for the final product

Bumping this thread back from the dead lol.
Does anyone have a part number for the dual filament bulbs with LED's?
Also, since all 3 bulbs light up at once, has any tried the sequential tail light kit on this? That would be sick.
I just bought some LT1 tail lights so I can't wait for the swap. I don't like the ls1 tails at all.

My B for bringing this back again. I did this mod too and was also curious if a sequential kit would work with the way this is wired up.
So is it possible? Ive searched around but cuz I wired it this way I just don't know. Thanks

I read pretty much all of that massive thread bout sequential tails and have a good idea so I'll see what the outcome is.
Just curious if anyone else went through this already and had any tips. "That's what she said."
Thanks

Yes I did it rewired everything and spliced the brake wire to unused terminal under steering column to combined turn and brake. Lots of trial and error. I can't get into it right now message me if you want more details.

If you could do that I would greatly appreciate it. I have my LT1 tail lights coming in soon. Lime I said I'm not looking to do the sequential light mod. Just want the LT1 tails to light up correctly.
Thank you.
Thank you.

I did this mod back in 2009. Here is a diagram I made to help out. You need another 3057 housing for each tail light, the reverse housing only has 2 wires. Also you need to extend the reverse and turn signal wires. Just drill out with a dremel the 194 opening for the reverse light and add the 194 housing to the two wires for reverse light from the car.
