Restoring your t-top molding trim write-up
I figured I would organize this from my thread in the 'paint section' since it's an appearance enhancement.
Items used:
SEM plastic prep/primer
SEM landau black vinyl coat
Scotch brite pad
Wax/oil remover
trim tape
Here are the before shots of the weathered molding. For prep I used a very mild scotch pad and some wax/oil degreaser to clean the molding up. It took alot of grime off and should provide a nice starting point. It actually looked pretty good after I cleaned it and would probably look good on any color car other than black. The black car just makes any dull trim look horrible!
STEP #1
Faded before shot
Taped and ready for SEM Plastic Prep/Primer
STEP #2
Finally got a nice day to apply the first coat of SEM plastic prep/primer. 1st coat was very light and then in 5 minutes I applied a wet coat. I'll let this dry for a day or two before I apply the SEM plastic trim paint.
First coat SEM plastic prep/primer (very light)
Second coat SEM plastic prep/primer (wet)
STEP #3
Finished the final coats of the landau black vinyl coat. It applied very evenly and looks great! The texture is not altered and these look factory.
Its been about 2 months since I painted the trim and it's holding up great. No scuffs or fading anywhere.
