I'm getting my car for repainted in a couple days. Pic of the car is below:



Car will be repainted factory Arctic white and the black ZR1 rims and black roof are staying. Thought about adding black Grand Sport stripes to give it a little character. I've seen a few pics, but am not 100% decided. The stripes would be black and painted on (not decals).

So.... a chance to voice your opinions? Think it would look great or stupid? $0.02 appreciated.

 

I hate them, but get them if you like them...

 

I wouldn't get them painted on, get vinyl ones after the paint is cured. You can always have them removed if you don't like them.

 

They look good on some cars, but not others. Since you're keeping to a black and white look, I think they'd look good, but I would definitely do vinyl or something removeable instead of having them painted on. That way you can toss them if you end up not liking the way it looks.

For ideas like the GS stripes, and any other paint ideas I want to test, plastidip is my best friend. Cheap, easy to apply, easy to remove if the idea doesn't look good.

 

i like them but they got to be a certain width, can't be to thin and can't be to thick.... i want to get some silver ones for my car

 

If you intend to keep the car mostly how it is (eg flat hood) then the car desperately needs something to give it some character.

Flat hood cars look like Chrysler Sebrings if they don't have something to give them some "pop".

I would do it. Even if you get a hood, they will still look good.

 

I debated the same point for a while. The flat hood on z28's makes them look really plain compared to ss or cowl hoods. I was going to try GS stripes, but ended up trying this out lately on my front end to spice things up a bit.

 

No stripes!! I think fbodies look so sick just plain, lowered. Stripes kill the sleekness look of these cars.

 

I can't imagine that it would look bad at all. I would just do decals rather than paint them on in case minds were changed later.

I've only seen a couple cars with GS stripes that looked right with them. it is the one set of stripes that doesn't have a set, specific spot for placement, or size. so those are the things that make or break them to me. the size of the stripes changes things a lot... how thick? same size as each other? one a bit thinner than the other? how much space between the stripes?... also the curvature of the stripes, and where exactly you place them, at how much of an angle... all of those little details that you have to figure out yourself. And of course, they simply have to flow with the car.

 

I would do vinyl if anything. What about lowering the car and painting the wheels white?

but its ur ride. agree with others tho, buy vinyl ones, paint is expensive if u grow tired of them. and u cud always get a new color sometime for 25 bucks

Hey Lt. Its Errthum from C Co. Id try out some plasti dip to see if you even like it. If not just peel it off. Hope your doing well.

 

When I see them, I think fast!! If your not....well......But with your set up, I would do it!

 

Thanks for all the replies and ideas. I appreciate the input. Looks like the percentages favor no stripes. I'm still undecided, though am thinking vinyl or ghost stripes versus black based on the opinions I received. Guess I'll have to decide soon...... car's been in the paint shop for 2-days now.

I'd love to lower my car..... but it won't physically be able to go up the driveway into my garage if I lower it. It barely misses scraping with just me in the car. My low point are the subframes/driveshaft loop.

As for wheels.... not a fan of white ones. Just me, I guess.
